Default Fish is barely moving.. what can i do?

Hi,

Ive got a tank full of goldfish, and one of them seems to be barely moving. Its still alive but it can barely move on its own accord.

The other fish seem to be "pushing" it around in aid to make it move.

Should i seperate the fish? Or let nature do its job?

Is there anything i can do to revive it? The missus is gonna kill me if anything happens to her precious fish while shes away out: out:

Separate the fish. You don't want it making all of the other fish sick.

What he said, and when it dies the other fish will eat if they aren't trying to already.

We've lost 3 goldfish to fungal infections in the last week, remove him from the tank and check if he has any white cotton wool looking stuff around his fins. Go to a petshop and ask someone who knows more than me what else to do. My wife brought the two school fish home for the holidays and they promptly died so she's off to buy some replacements that look the same too.......

Regards,
Tote

Thanks for all the replies, even the not so helpful ones.

I seperated him for a few hours and then he sprung back to life again when i put him back in(He seemed to be fine). He slowly deteriorated again so ill leave him out of the tank overnight and see if he gets any better.

I know flushing it seems the ideal situation, but as crazy as this is, all the fish are named and have a family heritage(gf is a hairdresser, need i say more). So can you see the dilema?

The tank appears fine, and all the other fish are happy as usual. And there are no markings on them either.

Your fish has a fungal/bacterial infection. Your local pet store will sell you some green liquid (can't remember what it's called). You'll have to treat the other fish/tank also. In the end if not caught fast enough the fish either turn black or go white.

have you been beating your fish up?

it seems funny that he sprung back to life when seperated from the rest of the fish... maybe they're bullying him

Have you got an air-stone in your tank ?. Although a filter pumping water back into the tank breaking the water surface helps air-rate the water, if you have a large amount of fish in a small tank the fish will be starving for air and also the water will become stagnent easier and create bacteria / which can cause "White-Spot" ( you need that anti-fungal stuff as mentioned earlier ) ... Also feeding the fish too much food will cause the water the go crap if the fish don't eat it all. Also make sure you also have a charcoal filter in the main filter / this also helps keep the water anti-bacterialised and also helps keep the water crystal clear . gl .

have you changed the water recently? If you don't too much nitrogen builds up in the water (I think. It may not be nitrogen, but too much of some chemical builds up in the tank)
Change a third of the water regularly and make sure the new water is at the same temp as tank water.

Bruising hey? If the colour is reddish and along the gills then the water is too acidic. If the fish is not upside down then he has a chance. Right now empty 1/4 of his water and replace it with clean water. Also look for the water agar to reduce chlorine.Best to isolate him.Sounds like he may have been attacked by the other fish

It`s sick and dieing. Nothing you can do really but ask the pet shop. Just put it in a ice cream container of water put the lid on and put him in the freezer. His sytem will slowy shut down and he will fall asleep and die absolutley painless.

tuff little buggers those gold fish, we have a little pond out front pond with about 10 fish in it, for a while there was a little bit of algae in there (you could almost stand a shifter up in it) we thought we better put fresh water in it and see if there were any left, sure enough after a complete change of water there was still 10 in there, but one was sorta swimmin upside down almost (stunt fish), let nature take its course survival of the fittest, and more time too spend on the limo. :

Mate best to ask the pet shop. I had a heap of them in my pond (about 50) and they never had a problem.

If you have had them for a while, then they are a pet just like any other. I had about 3 of them which bred the rest. I had them in my pond for the better part of 10 years and they are fuggin big!

With tank fish you really have to look after them.
