PNG has some great airstrips - the link should open up a page of various PNG airstrip vids, this one show landing and take off at FANE!

That airstrip video is absolutly insane. I'd be more worried about landing than taking off. If you didn't get enough airspeed you can point the aircraft down to gain some airspeed and take off.

Cool, looks like he needed 500m of the 450m airstrip to pull her up. With a 15kt tail wind he would be doing about 80 knots at touchdown (thats fast). Theres a lot of strips around that demand you hit the threshhold or go around.
Taking off is always better. You can accurately calculate your runway required/weight. The pilot in the vid had a good 50m spare ;) Takes some solid nerves but to land on strips like that. Nice work.

lol dad was up there in the early 70's and has told me more than a few stories of flying into airstrips like that.... he maintains that the pilots were some of either the bravest or most insane people he's ever met
and i thought flying into kai tak at night was interesting.....

Thats about right, On perth airport you could be at 500 feet before you get half way down the strip
Cessna caravan can stop in 200m I think
