They ought to be charged with attempted manslaughter, and locked away for 30 years or more each. Instead, they will get a slap on the wrists (though not literally, as then they could sue for assault), and be off to do it all again in the future.

keepleft. I’m sure that you’d be well aware of the Mark Evans bridge in the Hume Freeway.
This problem is widespread and happens in many places. I’ll be very blunt and point out that it tends to occur mostly in lower socio economic areas where delinquent little sh**s have nothing better to do with their time. I had to dodge a few rocks on the Western Highway at Melton (High St overpass) one night coming into Melbourne and I can assure you that it’s not much fun. Personally I think they should be put up against a wall and shot, although the civil libertarians would probably whinge and call it an unjust punishment. My 2cents. Cheers,

I've got lucky it was a couple of eggs that hit the middle of the windscreen on the expressway, that really made me crap myself and was a ***** to clean up after sitting on my car over my shift at work, though i do thank my lucky stars that it wasn't a rock or half-brick

Shouldnt have worried about the cops .
Those guys should have flogged em to within an inch of their lives and left em for dead ! I dont care if they are teens, They ARE old enough to know the consequences of their actions, and since they didnt care if they killed some INNOCENT motorist , why should we care about a couple of teens with murder on their minds ! This S*#t makes my blood boil ! :SaiyanSmi

Another problem is objects thrown from other vehicles , (Please , no offense to all truckies on here) , but once driving between Grenfell and Forbes (NSW) , I was driving my BMW ..( Blue Mazda Wagon ) 1 tonne van , when a there was a Semi travelling in the opposite direction , as I was just about level with the cab there was an "Almighty Explosion" right in front of me . The driver had thrown a Beer Bottle into my windscreen , the outside layer of the screen was still in tact but with brown glass lodged in the cracks , the inside layer had shattered into a 3" circle and there was glass "shards" the full length of the van . I was lucky that I wear glasses , otherwise I could have been blinded , as it was I had glass cuts all over my face . I went to Forbes Police to report it but like they said " How many white Semi's are there on the road" , that was the closest description I could give them . Anyone throwing Rocks , Bottles or any other object at another vehicle should be up for attempted Manslaughter/Murder . I class it as the same as shooting/knifing someone . AND it shouldn't matter what age the person is . Norm

I guess now the kids are on the side of the road as the bridges are off-limits now. Bloody dangerous and I am surprised no one was killed in this incident.

Its very sad the limitations the police have on teenagers these days, the other night 7 youths (14-16) bashed a caretaker at a caravan park we do security patrols on, left him with 8 stiches up his face, two black eyes and a damaged socket, the police drove the kids home, kids came back 40minutes later, so they rang security instead of police (you'd think it'd be the other way around?) and all 3 of our cars where there to clean them up and scare the **** out of them. They havnt been back any night since.
The caretaker/maintenace worker was suppost to have photo's taken of the assault and also his statement, unfortunatly the local police did neither, but their report said they had when he went to the station to find out what was happening, its like their sliding it under the rug so lack of evidence throws it out. Sad fact of life is kids these days, and also your common criminals, have way too many rights these days, if a group of minors (read, under 18) come onto your property and attack you, you defend yourself, and you're charged with assault? Sad world we live in. Obviously these kids knew exactly what they were doing and the risks involved to those who were hit with the rocks, but the law system with have in place says they've got no responsibility for their actions so nothing is done and they continue their distructive behaviour.

I don't believe kids have more rights at all. I believe that the police officers just aren't doing their jobs. Its as if they have the mind setting of "Ok well, if I give these kids a good talk and scare them with the fact that they 'could' have gone to jail, they wont do it again. And I'll just drop them home."
I feel pretty lucky for the fact that here in Canberra, we've got a whole new Juvenile jail center been built. So my guess is that the cops aren't going to be giving kids an easy treatment just to fill up this new jail ;) |

Would be damed hard for those kids to throw rocks again with both their arms broken I say. Should have been given a good hiding there & then.
Its an indictment on modern society, but calling the cops is probably the least productive thing to do. They'll go to Children's Court, get a good behaviour bond, and be on their way, probably sniggering as they go. Everyone else will have to fix up the damage on their own vehicles, seek their own medical attention for any injuries, and basically look after themselves. The kids and/or their parents won't have to pay a cent. |

Cops can only do by the powers they are given and it's up to the courts to sort it out. Probably why most cops don't bother with a lot of things because they know they will get let off. I bet you if they beat the **** out of them with the baton or pistol whipped them they would learn pretty quick ![]() |

I had a young relative get hauled in with some of her so called friends. the friends had stolen a mobile before they met up with her. the friends made full admissions but she kept pleading her innocence. She face court and got the slap on the wrist there. Stupid thing was the police said she was using the stolen phone but quite a few of the calls were to her mobile. needless to say those friends are still running around shoplifting etc. |

I think it means a slap on the wrist and go home to Mummy. In other words ... nothing.

I was in the Police station when they bought 3 teenagers in for throwing a shopping trolley onto a woman's car from the ROOF of a shopping centre car park (while she was driving it)! It wasn't the first time they had been there either. The cops went through their text messages and read out all the other stuff they had been doing and planned, violence, intimidation etc..., then they got to go home with their mummies.

Light sentences; the "I had a bad upbringing" excuse; not making them pay for the damage; not making the parents responsible............all these things progressively over time lead to a situation wherein society as a whole indirectly ends up condoning this sort of behaviour. People shrug their shoulders and pass it off as another daily event, to be forgotten about tomorrow. End result? As soon as you condone such behaviour, either purposely, or by doing nothing, then its a slippery slope to more lawlessness and less respect for other people.
Responsibility for one's actions. Those few words seem to have been lost in the mix somewhere in the last 10 or so years. I don't know whether its the fault of the courts, the media, the parents. God only knows, but as long as people can break the law, rob, vandalise, abuse, steal, deceive, bash, abuse or otherwise make a cretin of themselves, and then get away with barely a slap, then it'll only get worse. Nup, I'm not advocating 10 years solitary confinement, but just a few simple things to bring back some accountability. Make vandals etc pay for the damage they've done via government deductions from their pay packets. If they're unemployed, then deduct a percentage from their welfare. If they're minors, make the parents pay. I'm sure that there are many more initiatives that others could suggest that are vaguely constructive. There's always do-gooders willing to make a thousand excuses for these sort of people. Such excuses always tend to lay the blame at the feet of many others except, ironically, at those of the perpetrators. Amazing really. |
