I miss the drive-in's. Anyone else ?? I used to go to the drive-ins on a regular basis, sometimes every week , but there are sweet stuff all around anymore ! Certainly none up here in Darwin !

Thumbs up

The greatest fun! We've been going to temporary drive-ins run as fundraisers, had a ball! There's a company operating out of Melbourne.

Unfortunately they always seem to have them when its bloody freezing and most of the movies these days are rubbish. Sydney Streeters Bass Hill drive in nights were the best, had a car show as well.

Hadn't been for years and took my missus (who had NEVER been to a drive-in) to the Lunar drive-ins in Melbourne.

Grew up goin with the folks in dads old VB commodore wagon! We had one just down the road from our place near Midland in Perth.

Your not wrong. Last time we went there, we were lining up for 15minutes down the road (peak hour traffic is better!). When we got inside, we found out that there were absolutely no car parks left.

It turns out there was a special event or a club day or something and the place was full of 50's American cars. We got refund and left... nice place though.

drive ins are great, often go to the one here in Adelaide at Gepps Cross. Nothing better then buying a cup of cordial and a hotdog at the drive in. Amazing how many people have never been and thus dont care when they get shut down to make room for moron housing developers building the hyperslum of the future.

My folks have a holiday house in Dromana (Vic), its a 10 minute walk from the Drive In.

We often head over on foot with the Banana Lounge in hand.. Get a few wierd looks when we walk past all the punters in their cars lined up and waiting to get in....

Gotta ask who is the bigger fool. Sitting in your car on a stinking hot summers night or having a coldie under the stars on your own banana lounge.
Best part ?
You don't all have to evacuate when the old man drops one after eating his sixth hotdog. :

The Sign is still there on the Sydney road near the Ampol servo, Unfortunately the drivein now has one of the aforementioned hyperslums on it.

Sounds like the Go Phil. Maybe we might organize an event for it.

Definitely good fun and great value. I went a few months ago to the Lunar Drive-in with a mate and another couple. We had a matress in the back of the van (for the couple) and some bean bags. Perfect.

I just wish there were chicks on roller-skates serving food....

I used to love going to the drive in ..
I remember going to see "smokey and the Bandit" ..
in the truck with my old man .. I was about 6 or 7 then ..
there was a heap of trucks that night and trying to get out of there was fun as all the other kids wanted to ride on the trucks and stuff..

I hope they bring back Drive-ins .. I would take my kids there now

Do any of the still running drive ins use any new technologies such as fm transmitters and the like so u can just tune your car stereo in to the movie sound.. ya get wat i mean??

I would really like to have access to one up here but the lold one up here is now used as a motorbike trackj by the land owners.. can still see the bar and the posts in the car park area..

I can barely remember my 2 or 3 drive in experiences.. No not cos of that... cos i was about 6 years old..

Cheers,
Nik
