My next door neighbour's son who is 19, has started as a casual working at Wollies/Caltex servo. He's starting wage was $12.85 an hour, been there a couple of weeks now.

I doubt $10 an hour could be equal or more than the state award you should be getting. But what you do? Complain and get sacked? Minimum pay where I work is $14 something an hour plus bonus.

Sounds a bit low mate, especially if it is part time with no leave entitlements etc.
Better than the $4 an hour I got working at a servo when I was 13 but that was many moons ago, LOL. I would reckon that the minimum would be over $12 an hour.

I highly doubt it, I used to work at a servo a couple of years back, I got around 13-14/hr part time, which meant holiday pay, or 16/hr casual, that was the Vic award at the time.

Definitely low.. I was starting on $16 or $17 an hour for Mobil. $24 roughly for working weekends too. I think the older guys were getting around $20 an hour, then the time and a half for weekends.

When I was 18 and at Shell ( then became Coles Express), mine would have been around that. If you worked 38 hours I would at most received around $300 after tax.
that was a couple of years ago.

I'm 21 years old and casual with coles express and it is $18.88p/h weekdays and $24.24 weekends and public hols. I hear Mobil pays better though and the full adult wage comes into play at 20 with Coles Express so at 19 you earn i think it was about $3 p/h payrise when i turned 20

$10 per hour is kinda low for a 19yo. 12-13 seems more like it.

Fairfax Printers pays around $30 an hour (to anyone 18+) to stand and watch the machines and read the newspaper. I worked there for nearly 10 years. I took it on as a school holiday job when I was casual teaching and didn't want to leave. Hardest thing was staying awake. All I have to show for it pretty much went into my GXL and a couple of holidays. We got a $600 bonus (and free food) for working NYE 1999. I have a nice little lump of super from them as well. Much safer than working in a servo, I imagine.
