Default Blood Donors?

Anybody give blood? It is a worthwhile cause, everybody who is able should at least have a go. I am approaching 70 donations so far....target is 100.

I give blood regularly, I think I'm at about my 7th. Fantastic cause, can't encourage enough people to do it.

Please help to keep this threrad free of "I'm afraid of needles" responses, let's just make it a positive, donation promoting thread!!

Type O-neg, the universal donor.

Yup, they come out to our school once a year and I give blood.

I really should get into it outside of school

I am O- and used to give blood, but I lose circulation easily, along will a good flow being hard to find when I donate. For health purposes, I stopped. I plan to return some day though.

If you are non-homosexual (no discrimination, but blood banks for their reasons don't allow people to donate re: AIDS), have not been to England for a cumulative period of 6 months or don't do heroin, it's a great way to help out.

The blood bank is ALWAYS in need especially in AB- and AB+ blood, which constitute 1 and 2% of the population respectively. But I encourage everybody to donate. It's a fantastic cause and really, the pain is minimal.

I don't give.....I take. and it is possible that one of you donors has helped me. I have received more than 30 units, and would not be here typing this if not for blood donors! the "little" aussie bleeder lives to drive another day

I havn't givin blood, but I would really like to do it.

I was scared to give blood because wasn't sure if I could handle it. (looking at the needle)
But had to have a blood test and it was no problem at all. It was even very interesting to actually watch! So have been looking into it.

Used to give regularly, but NZ changed the rules a while back regarding donors who have lived in the UK... CJD: concerns

Was going to when they came to out work, but found out that because I have lived in the UK between 1980 and 1996 for a total time of 6 months or more, I can't due to the small risk of CJD....

Been about 6 times so far, but last two times I zonked out.
Can only put it down to seeing the old needle in the arm trick.
We used to have the old flat benches but they've replaced them with the new super chairs, so now I can see what's going on.
Oh well, only gotta wait another 8 months to try again!

Think I'm up to about 23 donations and my target is 100 as well - I highly recommend giving it a try if you're able to...it only takes about 30 min and you can help keep people alive...and there's free biscuits and sausage rolls afterwards

i don't even know my blood type but i will deffinantly do it when i turn 18. the thought of the needle in my arm freaks me out. i had a blood test ages ago and it was such a weird feeling, i felt really warm. on my license i am a donor. anything that can be used, they can use it. i'm not going to need all my stuff if i'm not alive and you can save maybe 10 people in the process.

Never given blood. I'd say mine would be quite worthless anyway. I don't feel too good after a blood test aswell.

I've donated blood twice...

the first time was really good.

the second time, they treated me like **** and were trying to get people through as quick as possible. and i ended up passing out. they took the needle out, i was still bleeding, sat me up and tried to get me to get up and go straight away. didnt happen.

really turned me off the whole thing. maybe i'll be able to go again oneday.

yeah, i agree scottsman, i'm quite happy to take an afternoon off work and toddle on down to the blood bank to donate... have also recently started donating plasma which is a different experience altogether...

i do it in the hope that if anything ever happens to myself or my family, there might just be some of my blood there to help.... fingers crossed we never need it though...

Umm. I wish to remind you that if it was a joke, there would be something in your statement that gives it away. I took this statement as serious, as did other people.

Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that you were serious and due to a poor reaction, you suddenly decided that you weren't serious.

Regardless, the Red Cross uses thousands of units per day to sustain the lives of people who do not donate.
Australia is dependent on the generosity of people who are willing to undertake a little bit of pain. Fact remains that a little ***** in the arm isn't quite as bad as a person who requires blood after having triple heart bypass surgery.

It's a case of perspective.

* Ok. The ***** is actually P R I C K, as in, ***** my arm with a needle. Not the adjective.
