Hi everyone , Just thought i'de let everyone know that after 25 years of smoking i have quit ! , i can't believe it ! , i didn't even mean to or intend it !.
About 2 months back i got pretty sick witht he flu / my smokes tasted horrid / was busy with family & friends in hospitals too etc etc . Basically for a month i didn't even get the chance to have a smoke much because of all the dramas going on , and when i did have one it tasted horrid anyway because of the flu/cold i had. Anyway , i had the cold for a few weeks , was doing the hopsital rounds for a few weeks etc etc .. i've just come to realise today that it has been 2 months since i had my last ciggy , and the good thing is i don't even feel like 1 anymore , i haven't for the last month . I never ever though i could imagine the day i wouldn't smoke cigarettes again, as i enjoyed my cigarettes to much. That cold and the family dramas was the best thing that ever happened to me, it got me to quit without even trying. And now if i get a smell of a cigarette i almost puke ..lol , i can see now why non-smokers say they stink, they do ! ( i couldn;t smell it that bad before ! )... but - being a former smoker , no way would i hold anyones smoking against them etc etc , having smoked 25 years of my life i know exactelly how hard a habbit it is to quit ! / as before so i wasn't even ready to quit yet as i enjoyed my ciggys to much , despite the health risks. Good luck to anyone out there trying to kick the habit , cheers . And believe me , i have tryed a few times in the past with zero success !

Good for you man. I need to quit so I can throw money at my car but yeah the will power is somewhat lacking. I've got the flu and it still hasn't stopped me from lighting up lol

Has been about 2 years for me now. I never really noticed the cigarette smoke smell prior to smoking ... or during smoking ... but once you quit ... it's pretty foul and helps keep you off the cancer sticks too ... a great thing really. I feel a lot better for it as well. Well done.

Congrats XR6-VCT-2000, It's been about 6 months for me, from 40 a day to none, cold turkey.
The good news is I'm saving an extra $100 a week The bad news is , like Darran, I'm eating an extra $200 a week ![]() nah, not really, but I have put on a few kilos, so that will be the next thing to fix. Rick. |

good stuff mate, keep it up. it's been 4.5 years since i quit. At a checkup, my doctor told me it really wasn't doing me any favours, quite the opposite in fact. I quit cold turkey at that point. From a pack or so of winfield red's a day.. it hurt like hell!! but i'm happy i did it. although it took me a while to work off the weight i put on after quitting. All good now though!
I still have a small cigar on my birthday, (which usually tastes like crap anyway) but that's it. |

Well done to everyone!
Im still pestering my gf 4 years later..lol...my final threat is to buy a motorbike. She hates them and thinks I will hurt myself (which is probably true), but the way I see it is that she is doing the exact same thing by smoking.

Thanks heaps eveyone for the kind words , and good on all you others too for quiting ;) .
Yeah it sure is nice not to be a slave to them anymore. Im also starting to pork up at last (i've never been over 75 kg my whole life !, im now up to 83 kg and going ..lol), i feel healthier , food tastes better, i've got a heap more energy etc etc. Even if i did feel like a cigarette again now , i don't think i could go back after seeing the results it is having on me / and the smell turns me off them now anyway. And yeah my woman is still smoking , so i get the constant reminder of what it used to smell like , allthough she gladly takes it upon herself to go outside for a smoke now / i didn't complain & moan or ask her to , she just did it out of respect , even she admits now that the house and cars smell cleaner ( non smoking areas anymore ) ...lol, very nice of her to consider my quiting.... what a woman ;) .

Congrats on quitting smoking.
Can't ever say I was part of the smokers' guild, although I had a 6 month plunge into them. Marlboro 12s aren't exactly mild and while I enjoyed them, I care too much for my health to punish myself. Well done to all the quitters. And to those who haven't, if you really want to quit, make steps today to ensure better health tomorrow. The proof is in the pudding! |

Good on you mate.
Still enjoy a smoke or 20 myself, but much respect to those who get out of them. Fantz - celebratory cigars dont count mate so it's all good ![]()

I've gone from a 10 year pack a day smoker to now a social smoker when I drink. I quit for 8 months and now only smoke 2 packs a month. But I should really just give this habit the flick.

![]() ![]() I have never smoked, probably because i have seen and heard how hard it is to give up. If people dont talk about how hard it is to give up, but how much better it is once you have, then people like me wont get scared enough to avoid taking up smoking, so keep being proud and boasting!!! It is a funny thing, but when i see people my age and younger smoking i find it harder to fully respect them because i figure you have to be fairly ignorant to take up smoking now, especially when so many people older than me wish they had never started, but find it too hard to give up. Sadly for smokers, that view is widely shared, discrimination is really starting to set in against people who smoke, whether rightly or wrongly. Anyway.. (Shut Up Jennifer!!!! ![]() Well done again to everyone, good luck to those who are giving up and power to those who think it is too hard so dont bother. ![]()

Thankfully, we also have much much nastier stereotypes ingrained into our heads than this. It's a shame some people look down upon smokers, but that's life. Funny the way our minds work ![]() Quote:
Rest assured i thoroughly enjoy it. The taste, the sensation... and of course the phyiscal nicotine addiction ![]() Davo - hang in there, it sounds like you genuinely want to quit. Everyone i know who has given 'em the flick has wanted to... those who quit because the new boyfriend/girlfriend doesnt like it have had a very difficult time.
