Dressing Respectively

Hello guys :]
I'm going in for a job interview as a promotion rep (mostly door to door) and the guy asked me to 'dress respectively'. Does that mean suit and tie?

Yes. I went to a job interview for a Storeman position in a collar and tie.
Perhaps if you were going for a "blue collar" type job you could dress a bit more casually. First impressions count. If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull!

Yup, wear pants.

It doesn't matter how well I've qualified for jobs in the past, I've always been knocked back for not wearing pants. I'm under the impression that that can be upsetting to some people.

As a manager, part of my role was to conduct selection centres for potential candidates.

95% of the time, there are candidates of equal calibre. The person that won out in the end was the one who usually presented better. The last guy I hired, the HR manager asked me what I thought of him, and all I could say was "Great Tie" and he said, "yeah, great suit." His presentation was beautiful, he got the job.

Dress pants, dress shoes (should be polished to the point where you can see up dresses!!!), white shirt, nice tie (read: no $10 shirt & tie package from ed harry please!!) and a jacket. I would assume you'd be wearing this or a uniform when on the job...

Just think - if you're looking like a million dollars you dont have to worry about appearance and you can focus on the job at hand - selling yourself.

Also act enthusiastic about the job. They hate it when your layed back. This can be a problem for someone who normally acts this way!!

yeah my bad on that part :] respectably, ill just wear a suit, white shirt and my graduation tie >_< my other ties are all too formal

Have a good handshake, make eye contact and don't move around to much in your chair. If you show up in the suit and they are dressed causally, you can take of your jacket as you sit down and put it over the arm of the chair or across the back. Hair cut and a shave (or trim the beard if you are like me

Good luck with it... keep telling yourself to stay calm and confident, and the one rule in any interview is: if you feel nervous and think you might be goofing things, say you are sorry you are nervous.....
Most times that is totally accepted...

Handshake is very important. Needs to be stong but not overbearing. You want to aim the arch between the index and thumb with theirs directly. When "shaking", grab their hand, down 1, 2, and 3letgo. Goodluck

Anoth thing to keep in mind body language and tone make up 85% of communication.

Concentrating too much on the handshake can be detrimental too, a Mr M Latham of Green Valley NSW put so much credence on the one handshake that it cost him, the job!!!
