DRIVERS have been urged to avoid refilling tanks for several days as retailers bump up petrol prices to near-record levels.
There will be little relief from shopper docket discounts, which from today will be capped at 4c a litre following an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) decision in December. About 60 per cent of unleaded petrol retailers in southeast Queensland are charging 165.9c a litre, compared with just 6.5 per cent of retailers on Friday and 43 per cent on Monday afternoon. "It was quite a gradual increase towards the hike but then on Monday we saw a significant jump and we're approaching the peak of the cycle now," RACQ spokeswoman Niki Kormendy said. "You are better off to hold off from filling up because prices will stay high for a few days and then drop off very slowly." Geoff Trotter from petrol price monitor Fueltrac said that he did not expect the discount limit to have an immediate impact. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/q...-1226792785849 My Comment : 98 will be around $1.80!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avoiding filling the tanks will do nothing... it is a commodity we all need and if we don't buy 40L this week to fill a half empty tank we will be buying 70L next week for sure to fill an almost empty tank.
I just filled up yesterday at 149.X for regular unleaded... my only peeve is that I had been driving for half an hr with the low petrol light flashing yet could only manage to squeeze in 29L... I really wish larger tanks were an option on cars!

There was a suggestion on AFF a few years ago about not buying on Thursday as a protest against the 'spikes' that come without warning. Some sort of protest is reasonable,
(I always buy less when it spikes) or we could all hope it goes away??!! |

The whole thing is ridiculous. I filled up at the new BP on the Geelong ring road last night and 91 was $1.44 , drove up to the western suburbs of Melbourne to drop someone off. The petrol stations there were all charging about $1.65 for 91. it's like 30 minute drive :/ It annoys me when they say it's due to supply over the Christmas new years period.

I saw 98 in Sydney yesterday at 185.9c/l
![]() Quite interesting that the prices hiked at the same time that woollies were having their last hoorah at 20c/l off. Food for thought. That when they had large discounts fuel prices always rose at the same time. Conspiracy theory. You be the judge. |

But you could keep it till the price comes off the spike, you have 30 days.

Plenty of them, but probably no so much this week as the price of petrol skyrockets those thinking of ripping their system out will be reconsidering how silly that reaction was. Ive got mine and its in to stay.

We do our shopping at Aldi and buy fuel from BP and are still a long way in front of people that go to coles and woollies and get 20c/l discount dockets. |

Yellow Festiva..I agree the fuel tank on the Fez is too small..50l would be better.
Commodore's tank is 10l more than the Falcon's. Back in the 70"s you could get an 80l tank for the Falcon. I think it was the Outback Pack??

Wife's new mirage has a whole 32l tank... that's just a really big jerry can... I guess the great economy it gets is a fair trade off.

Phtt...I topped up the tank on my GSX1400 the other day in Dingo and premium unleaded was 182.9 a liter. But then again, that's Dingo roadhouse for ya...
![]() Caltex premium unleaded was 169.9 in Gracemere this morning when I topped up before riding back home again. |

Yesterday both doncaster and fairfield in Melb. Shell has standard unleaded at 1.65 and BP 1.45 and both are very close to eachother at each suburb. Even petrol vouchers seem like aren't worth anything.
