Hi guys in looking at getting some brembos for my car 6 front and just the pbr rears, the guy from ftg said i won't need a different master cylinder is that correct? I just have a xr6, also wondering if anyone knows of some nice wheels that aren't to expensive that clear big brakes preferably 8" front and 9.5" rears and both of them 19s
Cheers

What do you think about the vaarstoen te37 copies on the site? Do you know if they'll clear brembos and fit nicely?

By brother just did that to his XR6T with Factory 19" rims.. He had to do something to the rims as the Brembos didn't fit with the 19# rims in stock form...

yeah the only FG wheels that fit are FPV wheels. only B series XR wheels that fit are BA XR8 18" ... and the FPV wheels ... but hey, the BA and FG FPV wheels are same same right :p
but yeah the TE37 copies "Should" fit but best to ask Cartel Australia about brembo clearance ![]() unsure how fast they are to reply on forums. but on FB they are lightening fast at replying

No offence to the OP but...
It looks silly painting the rear calipers with red paint. If you cant afford to do all four then dont do any I say. |

![]() Just get some aftermarket rotors for the rear, the front does the majority of the braking anyway. |

Why, the fronts do most of the work anyway. Going bigger in the rear won't gain much.

bossxr8 is correct, the rear brakes do only a small percentage of the actual braking. The primary reason why upmarket brakes are fitted to the rear of "normal" cars is the same as the reason for the little wings on the back, giant shiny wheels and stripes. To make the average person believe thay are driving a performance vehicle. FPV can't put "Brembo" on the rears unless they are brembo and to have what appears to be two different brake brands would be confusing (even though that is exactly the case). Other marques just fit "cheap" brakes onto rotors with holes (because that looks cool) and paint them a pretty colour (usually red) with their own logo or a made up logo that sounds very "performancy" which easily fools many "car enthusiasts". Go to a brake specialist and fit what they tell you to, they do this for a living. If you want the bling factor get some fake brembo (or whatever) covers, you will save a fortune. Big picture, if you are not driving fast, and in Sydney driving fast is in between murder and rape on the criminal code (but WAY below not paying taxes) there will be bugger all difference between brembos and most other performance brake packages. I have had brembos on most of my cars (and bikes) for the last 10 years but I live away for the city and drive in places where the first number is often closer to 2 than 0 (although that is a lot harder since the demise of (//)) and there are many animals to dodge so I have actually used the full capability several times. On the other hand just around town up to 100km/h they really do not make a lot of difference. |

Mate what are you trying to achieve with your upgrades (wheels and brakes)?
A. If its purely looks you are after? Then why not fit FPV copies with fake Brembo brake covers will save you a ton B. If its street performance you are after then a set of Brembos is not the solution as its designed for a completely different role instead get the turbo front callipers (second hand), fit a set of quality slotted rotors back and front, set of quality pads back and front, braided brake lines , and flush with quality race brakes fluid believe me on the street while staying at a reasonable speed, this setup will perform best, and cost under 1500 all fitted. C. If its race track performance you are after then sell your XR6 and buy a second hand evo i.e. a real performance car Also the 9.5inch at the back will make your tyres expensive and do nothing for extra grip, your XR6 simply does not have the turbos power to warrant the extra width, also without any proper suspension mods you are wasting your time And lastly big and heavy wheels will make your car slower, I noticed that when I upgraded my stock 17 FG wheels to 19 inch F6 copies, they are slower and heavier than stock, if you want actual performance then get a proper set of Enkei lightweight 18inch wheels (not expensive btw) they will make your car faster as they weigh less than stockies and with a proper tyre setup grip a hell of a lot better ![]() |

Why would Ford care what their competitors do. They offer 6 pot front and 4 pot rear Brembos as an option on GT if anyone wants them. |

I reckon 6 pot Brembo's on the front sounds like a great idea. You probably don't need them for the street, but that said its not that hard to cook any other brake package if you apply yourself. Possibly Brembo 4 pots would be almost as good since I can't help wondering if it is mainly the diameter of the disc (leverage) and weight of the disc (heat sink) that determines how well it works. So best value package might in fact be Brembo 4 pot fronts with DBA slotted 1 piece rotors.
Brembos on the rear probably is a bit over the top as other people have said. The BF1 XR6T 328 mm rear brakes would be plenty good enough. You could get 'matching' DBA rotors for the rear. Fatter wheels with larger diameter look good on most cars but make driving in the wet harder and driving on poor roads noisier. Grippier tyres would actually make the car corner faster. So ideally a Ford factory 18 inch alloy would give the best bang for buck, and also usually not have very big 'holes' through which the single pot rear calipers could be detected. Otherwise if you mostly drive it on dry days any rim that clears the Brembos would be cool. |
