Police believe human body parts found scattered along several hundred metres of the F3 freeway on the New South Wales central coast are the result of a hit-and-run accident or a suicide.

Officers were alterted just after 12:00am (AEDT) last night when a passing motorist spotted the remains on the roadway near the Gosford off-ramp at Somersby.

Detective Sergeant Darren Deamer says it has since emerged from witnesses that the body parts were there for at least three hours before that.

"It appears from investigations at this initial stage that the remains or the body has been run over numerous times," Sergeant Deamer said.

Police have not explained why the F3 wasn't closed until 2:00am (AEDT).

Forensic officers and other police conducted line searches of the area and a white station wagon has been towed from the scene.

Police say they are still trying to identify the victim, but are yet to speak with several witnesses, including the driver who made the initial report.

The F3 was re-opened shortly before 2:00pm (AEDT).

On the news this morning they said a person spoke with the cops thinking the victim was a friend of his.

Aparantly they had an argument in the car and the victim got out of the car and walked down the freeway........

Not much fun picking up pieces of people when they've died. Bit like collecting chunks from railway tracks after an acco or a suicide.

in the same boat. drove through there about midnightin a work truck (11t gvm), no sign of cops or ambos at that time.

i remember it was ****ing down rain and at some point on the freeway thought 'geez there is a lot of roadkill'.. now i have the very bad feeling it was some poor person and not a roo.

work mate was a few minutes in front of me and doesn't remember passing through there at all, then he spoke to a mate of his who is an ambo when he was at kariong, apparently the ambo mate got called to the scene.

That is tradgic to hear. When i was back in high school more than 10 or so years ago,i remember walking home from lisarow high school i witnessed a young man who got killed at lisarow station,he was on an express train which didnt stop at lisarow heading towards gosford station,he was in the car with the doors he was hanging out side of it when it went through lisarow station hangin onto the railing inside the train and with his legs hangin out (the stupidity of this act got himself killed) as he was doing this the train made its way to the end of the station platform where the railing at the end which prevents you from entering the train tracks is what stopped this kid and the kid got smashed by the railing and the train tor him against the railing and threw him out i think under the train. It was very greusome and you could smell death.Im also sure his head got caught under or on the wheels of the train aswell. Was part dismembered too as there was at least 3 blue tarps positioned.

it suckes as my dad usually drives through there around 10:30~ish.. and going by all stories/rumours, he would've hit him while the body was in mostly 1 peice

We had the police drop into the office this morn, were at Mt.Kuring-gai asking if we are missing any staff ? Assuming they have been doing a search and got to start somewhere but makes you wonder - this could go on for a veryvery long time.
I really don't understand how drivers could run over a torso thinking a roo possibly which is rare up the F3 imo and not consider stopping thinking that was a bigger "bump" than I'd expect.
How they say "human body parts" - is this meaning no torso ? so possibly someone has been murdered and their bits thrown onto the F3 ? yew it sure is mysterious.

Ha small world as they say - were at Hamley Rd......

Oh yer visibility ofcourse not the same at night - but - a roo is on the hop so to speak if coming out from the scrub but this was on the road/freeway now all my years and k's done late at night regional or otherwise you sure can spot road kill on the side of the road - now "if" there was a torso of this poor person you can't tell me you couldn't tell the difference from fur and a clothed person ? come on.
This is why I'm assuming "bits/parts" were only on the road and naturally why so difficult to identify.
Unreal and terrible is all else I can say.

this has me baffled. So did they only find pieces?
A clothed person walking along the side of the road looks alot different to old mate skippy. For the body to explode on impact like the way they are talking about surley it would need some serious speed because where he got hit isnt a fast stretch of road for trucks as they have only just finished the climb up the hill so they are only doing around 70-80km/ph.

Ever seen what a roo or something looks like after being run over several times....not only does it no longer look like a roo....there are bits of it strewn across the road...

Surely the person who originally hit him would of realized. But I guess they may not of been paying full attention and assumed they hit a roo.

Just trying to visualize what it would be like is scary. It's something you would see on Law & Order or something but it's 15 minutes from my house.
Wether it was an accident, suicide, whatever, it's a horrible way to go. Being thrown around in bits is something no one deserves.
If it was an someone walking along the fwy, there would have been somebody to hit him first. Even if it was in a truck, the split second before they hit he would have been fully lit up by the headlights and looking right at the driver, driver looking right at him. If this is what happened his guilt must be detroying him.
Whatever the sequence of events was, I hope they find who the poor man was and have a proper ceremony for him and let him rip.

even if you thought it was a roo wouldn't you be on the brakes and get out to look at damage at least?

i can't recall a 'body shape' object and felt no 'bumps' on the road, still don't feel the best about it though

It says around 12am and the road wasn't shut till 2 am. That late at night, it's dark, so visability is not the same as day time. From a distance, it would look like a roo in the dark and as you see more roos at night on the road, it would seem normal. Daylight, it might be different because you can see more.

If he was hit by a truck (which accounts for the body parts all over the place) then the driver wouldnt even know....
Not a pleasant task for those involved in recovering the body.
Still no news on who he was?? Or did they confirm it was the guy who had an arguement with his mate in the car?

How wouldn't a truck driver know that he hit someone.
They should of been watching where they were going, and even if they weren't surely they would of heard something.

You obviously havent driven in a truck then!

You wont hear or feel anything if you hit a person...
plus it was night time and if he was close to the edge of the road he may have been pulled under the wheels of the trailer.

I guess theres really only 1 person who knows exactly what happened

No, but I drive a train, which is bigger, more solid and louder then a truck. And you can hear it when you hit a kangaroo. I'm sure you can hear when you hit a person too.

Hit a roo once in a Hino (5ton tray) I barely heard the thump and felt nothing at all.
Once we stopped at our destination all we could see was grass/blood and fur all over the inner guards....

Too easy to try to blame someone when the facts are not known.

Some things that seem to be known are ... night time ... possible rain ... pedestrian? on freeway. By the looks of the pics the "parts" were mostly on left hand side of northbound carriageway.

Some things I know ... truck drivers (or any drivers) get drowsey about that time of evening ... a person walking away from the flow of traffic is not easily seen even by an alert driver in clear conditions ... if it was in fact raining then the person would be virtually invisible to a motorist regardless of whether he was wearing light or dark clothing ... the impact would have been heard by the driver of a car or prime mover and also felt if the wheels ran over something that large (but not if it was a semi-trailer that hit the obstacle). But unless the obstacle was seen clearly before the impact then a driver could very easily disregard the noise or bump as just a random obstacle that fell off a truck or a roo for instance. No one is expecting a pedestrian to be walking along a freeway at that time of night especially if there is not a parked vehicle in the vicinity to give some clue.

If it was a "lover's tiff" the guy may well have lay on the roadway facing away from oncoming traffic (suicide) in which case he would be virtually impossible to see or identify as an actual person on a wet night. It would only take two or three semis travelling close behind each other to completely macerate the body.

ok he was hit crossing the bridge, he has just 4 inches from the concrete rail and the fog line.
cars and trucks are doing a bear minimum 120 kph.
due to the verticle radius down/up hill your headlights only strech 5/10 mtr infront.
sporatic showers at the time.
he's torso or whats left of it; is right where the fencing is on the left, normally officer plod hides their.
he's arm was found ontop of the hill 500mtr ferther on.
alltho the media state he was hit at the exit. thats not the truth thats where he's arm was.
