Your not alone mate, when its playing up, its either very slow, or just times out before the main home screen loads. Seems to be getting worse.

MY fault this afternoon for running some housekeeping processes that shouldn't have slowed it as much as it did. Roll on Xmas so that we can finally migrate to the new server and avoid these issues (hopefully).

Cheers
Russ

I just go over to the ls1 forum and read their excuses about the new ford s/c 5.0L while the site comes back to life.

another issue i seem to be having a lot lately is when i click on 'new posts' it comes up with

Quote:
Sorry! The administrator has specified that you can only do one search every 30 seconds.
i can understand when ive hit it too quick after the first time, but a lot of the time its coming up with it on the first hit. if i hit 'back' it goes to the forum list, not a previous search result or anything.

Seems to be very random....

Its not just slow to load, but doesnt load at all and i get a timed out warning.
I usually give it a minute and then come back and all is well.

Before anyone asks the 15 minute outage just now was my fault after I amended the wrong firewall rule and blocked Port 80!

Wondered why the server was running so well this close to the 9.00 pm meltdown.

Cheers
Russ

We have made some configuration changes to the back end this morning (and restarted the server) to see if they help. We have identified that there are two things currently impacting performance - searches (thanks to the addition of a few two character terms) and some incorrect file paths.

As an experiment we have removed the search capability within sub forums (the googlebots hammer these to death) and reduced the number of results returned in a search to 500 as well as remedying most of the file paths.

Cheers

So how is one gonna search for older thread....or do we need 500 new 'what oil to use on my xxx falcon' threads?

It is a temporary move while I see what impact it has but given the number of threads on the topic of the forum being slow of late and the angst that generates would you rather I do nothing about it?

The new posts link will return at about 6pm but the search function will stay disabled for another 24 hours so I can gather data on the impact.

Cheers
Russ
