11yo driver pleads guilty after police chase

Boy was 11 when he took mum's car on joy ride (ABC News)

Guilty pleas have been entered in the Youth Court on behalf of a child who took his mother's car on a 80-kilometre joy ride from Mannum to Adelaide.

The boy, now 12, was not in court as his lawyer entered the guilty pleas on six charges.

They included driving dangerously to escape a police chase and acts likely to cause harm.

The child was 11 when he took his mother's car in March from a house where she was visiting a friend.

Police followed the boy after another motorist reported erratic driving at Inglewood in the Adelaide hills.

The chase ended in suburban Marden when the boy crashed the car.

The Youth Court ordered reports into the boy's mental health and background before a further hearing in July.

One wonders sometimes.....

It wil be interesting to see what happens due to the age of the offender. It also interesting to note they are looking into his background - I personally beleive that is the problem right there, too many excuses. At the end of the day he did something wrong and should be punished, unfortunately the court will most likely find that his "background" is the most likely cause of this mess and send him on his way. Still at that age I have no idea how they will punish him.

In this case, the parents need to be made accountable.
Their kid may be a little pile of faecal matter, but the parents are his guardians and need to take responsibility for controlling him.
If he is a brat who listens to nobody, there are institutions that deal with juveniles short of respect for the law and other people.

A sentence in prison etc. will do nothing. It's like festering in stew.
He can still learn how to behave appropriately.

How the hell did he manage to drive through the Adelaide Hills (via Inglewood) and only crash it when he got to Marden? I would have thought he would have crashed a lot earlier than that!
How would he know where he's going too?

Don't you know? Driving is easy!
