I'm contemplating the idea of re-routing my return from Perth to Melbourne via the middle of the country.
I have enough points for a free flight from Perth to Uluru + $42 bux tax, pff! (but not enough to fly to Alice Springs directly) and can take an Alice Springs to Melbourne flight on Tiger for $50 bux. Is there such a thing as a cheap (er) transfer between Ayers Rock and Alice Springs? Or is everything targeted at tourists and is super expensive? thanks, --Russ

Only two things I can think of are, take a bus(don't know cost) or hitch a ride with someone and put in for some fuel cost, its about a four hour drive from the Rock to the Alice.

I used to live at ayers rock resort, most staff would either drive themselves, catch a bus or fly
One method is to ring up the three hire car companies (from memory 6 yrs ago it was budget, thrifty and europcar) at the rock and ask them if they need cars transported from yulara (name of the town) to alice, they probably wont let you but hey, youll never know if you dont ask! sometimes you could get away with paying 1$ for the car and jsut make sure its filled with fuel upon delivery But also definately call up AAT Kings, VIP and Greyhound, they have busses going back and forth several times a day. as well as maybe seeing if you can hitch as well. I know i got the bus once to go from alice to yulara but cannot remember the cost, but i suspect it was between 50 and 70. (Greyhound) If you need anymore info on the town of yulara and ayers rock resort jsut shoot me a PM mate. |

It was $21 bux on Greyhound to go Brisbane to Noosa Heads... now that's more reasonable... took a nice day trip for my B-day.
