Government stimulus defeated in legal case.

Apparently the stimulus package has all but been proven illegal and we won't be recieving our $900! Does anyone have any information or thoughts on this?I'm not sure on if there's a thread on this so mods delete if unnecessary.
N.B. I'm furious at this if it's true!

As much as Im for recieving $900.. think of it this way, no one's reaching into your pocket, pulling out $900. It wasnt ours to begin with.

no one has any of this payment yet. the payments that have been handed out already are the ones associated with family tax benefit.

the one in doubt is the one for all workers earning under 80 or 100K i think.

Wrong. Sister in law has received her $900 and spent it already.

Friends wife also received hers.

but what one did they get

remember there has already been 2 paid that are not related to the one this guy is fighting

the ones i have received are the back to school of $950 and a single income for families of $900 they were both dependent on getting family assist it had nothing to do with the amount you paid or received from from the tax department

i know the ones that i got were all dependent on the family TAX benefit

Apparently some politician argues it is illegal, and has a strong case for it being illegal. Would be nice to see some people leave that money alone so debt riddled people like me can erase that debt. Also , it might have something to do with how criminals and felons are recieving it too? Not sure on all the facts just heard it on the radio this morning and thought we'd see what you guys think.

I heard on the 92.9 this afternoon that it would more than likely have to be paid back. And for some it will have to come out of tax returns etc

if you remember any money gained by the "alcopop" tax was returned to the alcohol industry or some crap, so the government didn't see any any part of it.

No he didn't, it was introduced after it was passed in the lower house and was awaiting rubber stamping in the Senate. Didn't happen tax was revoked, what was illegal about that?

Right, it didn't pass the senate. The tax should have been imposed AFTER it passed the senate. Instead, gun-ho labor at it's best simply add on taxes to everything and hope for the best. Not this time.

Some people on here are heavy drinkers and this tax would have cost them a few dollars. I must send in my receipts and ask for my refund.

Both those links only state that the handout is being challenged, which is old news, not that it has been defeated, which is what is implied by the OP.

I think it's a Uni lecturer who is doing this, not a Poly.

All I know for certain, is that if this guy 'wins' he will be lucky to get out of the country alive.

He won't be a well liked chap when millions of people have lost $900.
