Hopefully i'll be in the same boat in a few months mate, dialup is just about driving me batty...the amount of times the connection drops out it's unbelievable, you'de almost swear it was a tactic by the phone companies to get more local call fees every time it dials up! There are plans around at $30/month for 500Mb which would make it cheaper than the $23/month on dialup now without all the local calls thrown in!

Local calls are around 20-something cents per call! Sometimes when the server is playing up it may take a few goes to actually be conncted...there goes a buck! :

a good site to find adsl plans is www.whirlpool.net.au there are heaps of good plans on there for under $50 with heaps of d/l and fast connection speeds.

Thats sucks, in NZ local calls are free for landlines. So they up the cost on the cellphones plans so they still get all there money.

I am now on ADSL too but before that I kept dropping out, having to redial etc...

Replace your telephone cable from the modem to the wall socket. Make sure it's JUST the right length, cos the longer it is the worse it is. The old cable may have the teeniest broken wire, and that's where your problem could be.

My phone bill has gone down enormously. I was on a dial up plan of $24.95 a month, now I'm on ADSL for $29.95 a month and I don't pay for the cost of the phone calls anymore

SO worth it. I'm on a 300mb limit though, I'm going to have to change to the unlimited plan - hubby and son play online games and they push it to over 2GB a month. Thankfully mine you don't pay for extra usage, it just slows down to 56k.

What's your download limit?

Depending on that, go to BitComet and download the program, then hit TorrentSpy and run a search for music, video and whatever.

Then there is Entertainment for while you surf, or do whatever, around the house.

I'm just about to upgrade to ADSL myself... what are the best providers/deals going around atm (for a light/moderate user)?

PS Sorry to hijack your thread, svo 347.
