Wonder if it's because the unique Volvo 5 cylinder engine is a bit special compared to run of the mill 4 cylinder engines.
They are hit and miss.

Some high kms.
Others low.
I'm aware of one where a dude will be asking 26k.

30k odd kms
Leather.
I know I'd rather an XR5 than an ST.
Sadly they are now in the grasp of a p plater fitting stupid crackle maps to them.

I definitely miss mine

Not being biased.
But various turbo falcons seem to be sort after too now for some reason.

Yeah, same here XR5 is unique compared to the others.

I notice Mondeo XR5 is significantly cheaper, as in to the tune of $5000, I guess if you want the same engine but don't mind the extra car you get for less money that's a good option, plus more likely to be owned/driven by stale old man.

There's some other interesting JDM stuff that's now poor value - JZS161 Toyota Aristo is circa $20K-$25K which are up $7K-$10K on 2019 prices.

That particular car, you'd be better off buying a BA-BF XR6T which is better value because you get the Barra turbo instead of the 2JZGTE, an extra 1000cc and already has a single turbo instead of the compound twins.

Might just be luck but I have noticed a lot of information on I5T head gaskets? Not sure if owners are winding them up to far?

Papier-mâché rods, head gaskets and open deck block dramas once you go to bigger turbo and supporting mods to go circa 300KW/wheels mark.

I don't think it would be too much of a problem with just the typical intake, exhaust, intercooler and tune which puts them around that 160-170KW at the fronts point - that factory turbo Borgwarner K03/K04 is used across a couple of other Ford Ecoboost engines, it's a bit small but that's why it has peak torque at 1500 RPM and power tops out at 5500 RPM.

To put it into perspective it makes the same torque as my diesel Focus in stock trim but 500RPM earlier, holds it for much longer and is up 60KW to boot too - it's a pretty sweet setup that 2.5L Volvo engine.

Colleague at work has a modified Volvo 850R wagon and it will blaze the fronts like no one's business
