I heard a rumor that Bob Jane and ANDRA were having talks about resurfacing the strip making a longer run off and installing new timing system to have the track open in Oct this year, can any one confirm or disprove this rumour, wouldnt it be great if it were true

if and when it reopens I imagine it will be very busy for a while, might even pay to have street drags every week for a while

Um, there's a bloody great road in the way, at each end!
There isnt enough room for an adequate run off if the track is to ever obtain A grade status with ANDRA. Also the spectator area is too close to the track.
Why anyone would design a track that runs east / west is beyond me, if they are going to do anything out there, please make it north / south!

i remember them stopping the events for the sun to go down. but on another note powerfest 2 , gazzanats and drift a bit of action out there but gazzanats hasn,t got drags so this year is out of the question for drag racing

Depends if the owner of AIR wants to sell it or not. It was offered to ANDRA to buy then withdrawn on a cpl of occasions, would be the best thing to happenif it was sold though.

Last rumour I heard about AIR was on Friday when I was at my tuner from a bloke in the XR & Tickford club that mentioned he heard that they would lay a new strip & add a new Xmas tree in Sept 07 for racing to commence b4 eoy. Im so hoping this happens. What a Xmas present for us SA mob that so deserve a useable drag strip in our own backyard.

All current and future bookings are to be made through Calder Park as the management there control A.I.R. Does Bob still own Calder?

Will never sell it, either will his sons.....even though Bob pays $350,000 just in land taxes every year on the Calder Park Complex.
