Default VIP save the whales :)

Just thought I'd post this on here so that you can sign the petition if you want to. The more the better!

Good idea, even though I am not strictly an environmentalist I signed up, whaling is a completely needless exercise.

Do partitions really achieve anything? There seems to be an endless stream of petitions happening... I never see "Whaling stopped by petition" or "Iraq war ends due to petition" or whatever in the news.

Call me sceptical, but... eh... whatever... whatever makes you feel better. :

Oh, and on the whaling issue... are they eating the endangered whales? I thought they were hunting the more populated species? I'm more curious as to what whale tastes like anyways, I'm told it tastes like beef, but better! Now if I discovered a meat that tastes better than a medium-rare inch steak, then I'd be in a bloody boat hunting it too! :evilsasmo

Whether it be hunting whales, littereing, burning fossil fuels, using too much water, or whatever, we're all guilty for damaging the environment. The Japanese have been eating whales for... ever. We've been driving cars for maybe 100 years or something?? Just as bad in my point of view. I have the 'clean up your own backyard' type attitude I guess...

Well I'm a veggo so the thought of eating whale is kind of... well... REPULSIVE! :

And there is a difference between farming animals specifically for slaughter and taking animals in their wild state and reducing their numbers to the point of extinction.

Also it does not hurt to lodge a formal protest and stand up for what you believe in. I have heard of many smaller victories through the use of people power, bigger ones are harder to deal with but at least we can try. No point in sitting there saying "whaling is wrong" then continuing on with eating dinner

I can also understand, Quannie baby, about cleaning up your own backyard. I suppose there is so much to clean up, where does one start?

Water desalination programs?

Getting the "man" that some of you voted in to sign the Kyoto agreement?

Thinking of some way of making cars (like the Prius) more affordable (and better looking! lol) to the average consumer? Or even better, a quick and simple solution that can turn all our cars into environmentally friendly, cheap to run beasts of the road?

Helping out the homeless and people with mental health issues by providing funding instead of the politicians giving themselves a big fat pay rise (and doing it on the day Schapelle was trialled so we wouldn't notice)?

Helping the refugess by actually listening to them and making the court process quicker, therefore reducing the amount of time they spend in concentration camps - oops, slip of the tongue there... I meant detention centres.

Ok Bindi dismounts from her high horse yet again and stops the ranting loony stuff that comes from posting as soon as she gets out of bed in the morning (as she always seems to do then regrets later!) :hihi:

Beef cattle tend to be killed a little more humanely than hunting down a whale, I don't know enough about whale populations to argue specifics with you, but if you don't want to sign it, thats fine with me too.

You've eaten Whale?!!

I was pretty brave with most food when I stayed in Japan, but Whale was scarce (well, the missus never offered me any!). I have to say raw tuna and raw squid are actually pretty good.

I didn't have the guts to try sea cucumber (gross!) or dried snake though

This is what sea cucumbers look like in the supermarket... Like a... turd slug thing :

This is a dish of sea cucumbers in salty intestines! Dig in! :togo:

...sorry a little OT... e

Here, here. Very well put.

Ahhh yes... that would be the one that the majority of the Australian people (myself proudly included) voted in? The people have spoken bindi, some of your rhetoric and left-winged cheap shots reek of sour grapes Lol, but one cant hold someone's posts against them when they've been made first thing in the morning...

I have signed the petition although I feel it is greatly misdirected. It is not the prime minister's job to order patrol boats to watch the whalers.

But hey, this aint about politics - its about an endangered species. Lets hope it helps!!

If we introduce whale meet to the Australian market, then we can be the same as Japan. Isn't that fair?!

Later that night at Hogsbreath Cafe:...
Waiter: Are you ready to order sir?
Me: Yeah, I'll think I'll try the 8" whale steak thanks.
Waiter: Nice choice, that'll be 7 hours.

Would it be OK if we had whale farms where they grew whales only for eating?

That's a great solution Selekta, I like you're thinking.

I'd love to take part in the great whale muster

I am a carnavour. I have eaten osterage, emu, crocodile, intistines, monkey gland, sheep, raw fresh minced beef, cuddlefish, heaps of german meats and countless amounts of different organs (a good friend of mine is Lebanese.

And the usuals such as beef, chicken, fish, octopus, squid, lamb, turkey, pig (not just ham and bacon).

I do find it interesting that we eat our national emblem (yes got it off the new vb add).

I've seen crocadile and emu in Woolworths, that was when I lived in Adelaide a few years back.
