Default Horns again.

from SA>
More than 260 people have signed a petition to the State Government calling for train drivers to use horns only for emergencies, such as a person or animal on the track.
The Transport Department replaced horns in its 11 electric trains, costing $66,000, between May and November following community complaints.
The department said the new horns were between 88 to 90 decibels – the same volume as the previous diesel trains – and met Environment Protection Authority guidelines.
The previous electric train horns were up to 97 decibels.
Marino petitioner Amanda Aloia said the horns were “loud, high-pitched and, quite frankly, frightening”.

what the fruitcake, my Stebel (Italian?) horns are rated @139Db and no where as loud as these babies. Can someone clarify.

Wonder how I get a set of ex South Aus train horns.

You need to check the distance from source that it is measured at - the Stebel horns are usually measured at 100mm from the horn. Probably find that it is measured at 10 meters or something for the train.

EDIT: It seems in USA they measure train horns at 100 feet from the source, so it may be a similar distance to that - 35 meters perhaps?
