Default Fiesta ST noises

Hey Guys,

Had my ST for 3 weeks now and it's easily my favorite car I've owned.

Just wanna know if anyone can shed any light on whats making this noise.
Basically around 2000rpm I get a sound that's a little like someone blowing across the top of a beer bottle. That really is the best way I can describe it.

On a cold start it's really quite loud as the revs pass through 2000 then it just disappears beyond that.

And after a minute or so when theirs a bit of temp in the engine it almost disappears altogether, although It actually is still there just very very quiet. I can only hear it with the window down and no radio and only around 2000rpm.

It happens both in gear and in neutral, but is louder when pulling in gear.

Its defiantly not the high pitch whine of the turbo.

The cars only done 1400 ks

Would love to know anyone's thoughts

Cheers

Rick

Hi Rick my st is up to 13500km and i hear that noise you describe also and under the similar circumstances but i thought a little lower in the revs(1800ish) so i would suggest it is normal but like you i do not know what it actually is

Yeah sure it's probably a normal noise.

sounds pretty normal esp if you notice it less when the engines warm.

If it's like a ghostly howl, then that's your intake. I put a K&N panel filter in mine and it made it even louder. Once you've "driven" your car in a little bit more you'll notice the waste gate going "PSSHHHHH!" A lot more aswell.

Have to book my inspection for the ST

When you guys have music playing not overly loud, say around level 7. Can you hear the rear speakers kind of crackle?

Also how long does the inspection take?

Cheers
Jay

No I can't say I've ever heard that noise.
Sounds like it might just be a loose connection though.

Do yourself a favour and record the problem on a phone/tablet so that you can show the Ford guys.
My experience is that when you want a fault to show itself it runs away and hides!

Sounds like you may just have some dirt or something in the cone, I doubt the sony speakers are failing after less than 6months.

Inspection takes about 30mins to an hour.
