"Thanks for saving me from cancer superman!" That's what I would have said.

But really, depends what was said as to whether I would have thrown a punch.

If his 'mouthing off' was just an innocent sorta " Sorry, I didnt realize they were your smokes", then i dont think punching the bloke would of been required. Although if he was mouthing off and being smart about it , i would of thrown more than one punch !

So he said some bad words and you hit him! the prisons are full of violent criminal scum like you and that is where you belong. You are a danger to society if you behave like this. Others may think these are strong words but it needs to be said thumping a person because he says something you don't like is not tolerated in decent society. So he also took your cancer sticks! That is still no need for violence if you felt strong enough you could have had him charged with theft but no you want to be a big man and assault him. You then wonder why you get kicked out of the pub well most publicans will not tolerate violent thugs and nor should they have to. :

Sorry man but you can't hit someone for stealing your smokes and you really can't hit them for mouthing off at you.
If you jumped up and said "hey, what are you doing? those are my smokes!" and he turned around and hit you, or was obviously going to hit you, it would be different.
You can't get physical to defend your smokes

EDIT: What would i have done? I'm a little ashamed to say it but probably the same thing (minus hitting him for mouthing off), though i'd ask him for the smokes back without grabbing him first.

some may think so but hitting someone for mouthing off is way too harsh! scum like this need to be put in their place. this guy thinks he is a hero when he is nothing but a thug. the problem these days is people feel the need to not offend when someone acts like a complete tool well i don't i say what he is if that offends him good it might make him think
