Default Capri Convertible 1990

I have just obtained my FIRST FORD. Took a long time to get there, however the Ford that I now have is a Capri Convertible 1990
"Why!!" do I hear you ask? Well I believe that they are misjudged and misunderstood and probably nearly all gone from the face of the earth and they don't deserve that sort of treatment.
So I have decided to save one.
However it has done a head gasket or similar and has NO compression and is in need of a heart transplant.
What I need to accomplish this amazing feat is information on what Ford motor can I mate up to the single cam 1600 manual gearbox. I would have to be a twin cam at least and probably a lot younger than 1990. Perhaps a late model Laser or Mondeo or similar.
Can any body assist with suggestions or information??

Regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
How is the Capri going? I've purchased one as well and in need of the same info.
I agree with you, they are a future classic and unfairly misjudged at the start. My father purchased one of the very first capri turbos and its been a trouble free rocket. So much so, that I've just bought a similar (non) turbo as a weekend run around (if I can get it going!) Please give me an update when you can
