Herald Sun has decided that we should now pay to view articles online... I go on once a week to check some sporting news and that's it. They're asking me to pay $3 a week to continue viewing this information. Sorry but I'm going elsewhere. Yea $3 a week probably isn't much but why should I have to pay for something that was originally free to view in the first place.

I noticed it this morning. I can understand them doing it as I haven't bought a paper in ages since being able to look at it online. Won't be long before others follow suit...

I dunno. They still sell a LOT of papers (they were the ones we sold out of first at my old coles, could be a diff story overall), and they're not as spin doctory in regards to the news/world sections as the Sun...
At the end of the day for me it's SBS, ABC and the Age. They in my mind are the three least likely to screw consumers over

BBC News is the best available.
The Herald Sun had front page coverage of Dita Von Teese in her undies on the front. Now, I thought it was great, but in a world where there are some serious matters going on, they put a few ladies on because Von Teese decided to launch her own lingerie range... And that is the Herald Sun in a nutshell. The scandal created because the Mayor wears a toupe receives precedence over The Queen being shot.

Guys, what you need to understand is that the Paper business model has always been built on running at a loss on the cover price (sales for printing, distribution and staff) and the ads pay for the rest.
ONLINE ADS DO NOT COVER THE COSTS. Not even close! If they went to an online only model as it currently stands, they would have to get rid of around 75% of content. It's simple as that. Watch this doco, it explains a lot. http://youtu.be/rwTMFXgf95c |
