A note on NSW demographics, the 5-14 age group is about 1M so if the state government’s next rabbit-out-a-hat is to require this group 70-80% fully vaccinated, we definitely won’t be backing off the thumbscrews any time soon.

Further to the comments above, the UK has recorded 1.12M cases in the 37 days since 'freedom day' at an average of 30.1k/day with 3,146 deaths (and ~1,500 yet to come) which is a CMR of 0.41% or a bit above the current level.

Was just going to ask the same question.

Sure 80% vaccinated, but what % of deaths were also vaccinated?

At the current CMR it would be almost 4,800 deaths which probably isn't acceptable and if we saw pro-rata case numbers like the UK (their 10-DA is 31k/day) we'd be seeing 10k cases per day and 38 deaths (~14k per annum) even at the lower CMR.
I think the 10,000 cases a day and 40 deaths is what we will see come winter next year.....and I think we will accept it.

Sadly it is going to be as much who is dying as how many. If the under 60 age bracket is 1000 deaths and the rest (I will be with that bracket in a few years) in the older community, I think that the country will battle on. Only if it is 1000 20 year olds we will see a different outcome.

There is no way the general community will put up with another year of lockdown, we did what we had to, but those protests will grow to huge proportions and governments will fall if it continues. Vic has an election late next year, no way we will go into that under lockdown.

Israel, once a global leader in coronavirus containment, has one of the highest daily infection rates in the world.

Nearly one in every 150 people in Israel today has the virus. An average of nearly 7,500 people are infected per day — double the infection rate of two weeks ago.

The new surge has Israeli leaders scrambling to bring back mask mandates and restrict gatherings as case rates come close to the worst days of last winter.

Globally, scientists are studying infection rates among Israel's vaccinated to understand how the vaccine holds up over time. The findings have not been encouraging, setting off a wave of booster panic around the world.

Prepare yourself for never ending lockdowns

I've got the news on and it is just unbelievable how crazy the debate about masks in schools is in the US.

The kids don't give a **** about wearing a mask, they just want to go to school and see their mates. It's the parents making it a big deal for whatever ****ing reason

Now you just got to work out how to get there as I'm sure a holiday does not cut it for special exemptions to leave our country under lockdown conditions.

Depends what is stated in the constitution, I'd imagine it could be possibly done with current government going into a caretaker role until one is held.
It certainly would be interesting to see if it was suspended and what legal debate/arguments are put forward.

The death toll will only be acceptable when it's not YOUR family member ....when it is it's going to make you more angry how pollies and health professionals have let things get out of hand and question the decisions that have been made

I still think lockdowns are an effective tool done properly at the start of an outbreak ( extremely difficult with delta) but you need the people onboard with it were all still learning and getting better at it ....businesses are adapting organising online orders etc .....sure were going to have to open up after vaccinating and in NSW that's really the only option they have but knowledge is the key and the longer you can delay it the more we learn by other countries examples

If you use the UK and USA as models to follow your heading down a slippery slope because they've both made some pretty horrendous blunders ....I think time is an allie and the longer we can keep safe the better .....get used to local holliday's and wait for the technology to evolve

So it says on the Vic website that walk ins are accepted for aged care/disability workers at some sites. I would assume for Pfizer being they can't give az without a GP consult
What's stopping someone just walking in and saying they are?
Asking for a friend of course.

The island had a runner in the 1500m athletics at Japan Olympics, flashbacks to local pub live, no masks, so not sure, the runner was Stewart McSweyne, no medal for him, so I would say no masks no covid!

Radio just said that there is no reason why several travel bubbles can't be established once 80% vaccination is achieved.

The minister pretty much mentioned every country I did plus a few more.

Its bound to happen my friends. After 80% vaccinated rates tapers off so they can't keep us here forever.

I'm aiming for an OS holiday in January and it seems it may actually happen.

50% of GVHealth staff at Shepparton are home isolating hence the need to bring in health workers from other locations and the military

Supermarkets are either closed or opening with significantly reduced hours due to staffing issues

50 people in Shepparton and 16 people in outlying areas now infected. All because some ****er from Glenroy (Melbourne) couldn't stay home -%$#@%^^%$

I admire your optimism. A tourism minister spruking tourism .

Allowing citizens back in would be good enough for me, so I can see my nephew and niece. They were meant to be here now, but cancelled cos their transit through Fiji got canned. What a blessing though, cos they would have been locked down had they been here!

Next whacko theory will be that governments are mandating a secret “vaccination” coating on all new smartphone and tablet screens, that transfers to the bloodstream of the user…

Of course they could deny this, then we know it’s true! Or say “Why would we? We’ve already put antiviral agents in that toilet paper you’ve all been hoarding!”…

Reports coming through that the Vic health system (not just in Shepparton, Trev) is suffering duress and that the Vic government is planning to bring in healthcare workers from overseas.

PS The latest covid buzzword seems to be 'furlough'.

Quote:
Victorian health system under 'enormous strain'
The Victorian AMA branch is warning hospitals are at breaking point due to the high number of staff members furloughed during the current COVID-19 outbreak.

It was announced yesterday that Victoria will fly in 350 medical staff from overseas to ease the pressure on its weary health system.

Victorian AMA Vice-President Sarah Whitelaw said hundreds of staff have been taken out of the system.

“I would estimate we've got close to 1,000 healthcare workers on furlough, which does put an enormous strain on the system,” she told ABC News Breakfast.

“Absolutely, we want people to come if you need emergency treatment, if you're sick, please do not stay away. But there is no doubt that healthcare workers are stretched, they're exhausted.”

The AMA wants international medical graduates who are already in the country to have their rights to work in the hospital system fast-tracked.
