Default Three Great Australians

Ya just can't believe it first Steve Irwin then Peter Brock, they say these things usually happen in 3's and the third was Colin Thiele.

Colin Thiele was one heck of an author mainly children's books some of you may not remember him but if I mentioned Storm Boy I'm sure you all now know of who I'm talking about.

Rest In Peace

Colin Thiele, Steve Irwin and Peter Brock

Three Great Australians

That was a great movie. Been plenty of air time over Steve Irwin and today with PB. I hadn't head about Colin Thiele. Usually its the more widely known celebs that get the most headlines. It would be nice to see all 3 get the due respect they deserve. We should be able to celebrate the lives of all great Australian's.

I met Colin Thiele as a kiddy, great author, a true cultural loss.

Don Chipp was among the most important of the recent passings.

He led a party that was competent, well run and very well backed.

Meg Lees also knew her role...that was to monitor prospective lesgislation and either support or block it, based on their reviews and such.

Stott-Despoja ****** the democrats to the point of them becoming a rabble.

Being in the Senate doesn't mean pushing your own agenda per se. Chipp didn't want to do this...he just wanted to "keep the bastards honest", not "tell the bastards what we want".

Don Chipp therefore should be remembered as a great politician and a great leader.

I read a heap of Colin Thiele's books when I was younger, including Storm Boy. He was a great author. May all three rest in peace

sad isn't it that ppl you grew up seeing in the limelight for the good things they did, but sadly its a fact of life, i remember in class we were looking at the rates of certain diseases put up by the red cross like hiv 1 in whatever and at the end it said 1 in 1 death, we all laughed at the time but yeah thats one of two things that cant be escaped from, death and taxes...

When people around you start dying, it means you are starting to get old

The other 2 guys that you mentioned are great australians in their own right however, when you say, even to your self, Steve and Peter are dead, not only cant you believe it but there is that empty sinking feeling in your stomach that you cant describe because you can not believe that these 2 icons are gone. The other two great men do not leave me with this feeling. Steve and Peter are just a notch higher in the scheme of the things they said and did.

Meg Lees finally made it possible for the fed govt to implement GST.
Natasha Stott-Despoja always maintained the courage of her convictions.
Anyway to get to the point of this thread, the thing is we are constantly losing icons, thats the way life goes, I guess now and then there will be a bit of a 'surge' in the frequency or regularity of these occurrences. But whatever the case I find it sad and without having any great idolatry for most public heroes and icons who after all are just mere mortals, the 'scene' gets a bit bare for the absence and loss of such colorful prominent figures.

Yes indeed, this is symptomatic of our society. If you are brash, make a lot of noise and generally court notoriety you will capture the publics attention much more readily than if you are a quiet achiever and steady valuable contributor to the enduring quality and fabric of society.
