Default 2007 Fiesta A/C problem

Hi All..
My wifes Fiesta with 80,000 kms a/c doesnt seems to be working...Warm air only..
Looked around for leaks and damp oily areas..nothing.. .. Compressor is nice and clean..
Clutch engaging..Quiet compressor..

So fitted my a/c gauges to see if the Gas is low..
The gauge on the lowSide is showing 130psi..!! Should be under 50psi..
I topped it with a 100 grams of gas anyway.. (A few days ago)..
I then got very cold air? That day was 39 degrees..
I did notice on idle, the Air was warming up, but when driving along the air became very cold.. Slowly pulled down to 2 degress ( At Night ).. Which is great..
But i was still worried of the High LowSide readings?

Today my wife complained the A/C is still warm and sometimes cold!
When i topped the gas, i installed a UV Dye..
Had a look around and no leaks..
So i hooked up the gauges and found the LowSide is still at 150 psi ...
It sounds that the compressor is at fault..But at 80,000 ks, that seems odd..
I havent jacked up the caras yet, to look at the compressor to see if its a Scroll type pump.. Wife's out shopping
A Scroll compressor sometimes has problems on idle with High LowSide Gauge Pressures.. Which would be a cheap fix by replacing the control valve on the Pump..

So Does a 2007 Fiesta use Scroll compressors??
Regards..

Depends which engine you have.

Vehicles with 1.25L, 1.3L, 1.4L or 1.6L petrol engines are equipped with an output-regulated spiral compressor (FVS 090).

Vehicles with 2.0L petrol engines are equipped with an unregulated piston compressor (FS 10).

Vehicles with 1.4L or 1.6L diesel engines are equipped with an output-regulated swash plate compressor (Sanden SD6V12 for 1.4 / SD7V16 for 1.6). The 1.6L diesel engines are equipped with a thinner condenser with a thickness of 12 mm compared to 16 mm.

Cheers
Russ

Thanks Russ
It's the 1.6 Model.
Does that version pump have the valve that's replaceable.?
I've never come across a Spiral (Scroll) Compressor.
Cheers.

The FVS090 (stands for Ford Variable Scroll). It (on auto models) has a variable evaporator core orifice, which is located at the position of the evaporator core orifice in the condenser-to-evaporator core pipe.

In addition to a calibrated orifice with fixed flow rate, the valve housing features a variable orifice. The flow of refrigerant through the variable orifice is regulated by the refrigerant temperature. Depending upon temperature, the bi-metal spring turns the metering orifice, resulting in the variable orifice being opened to a greater or lesser degree and thus regulating the flow rate to the evaporator core.

Cheers
Russ

Thanks for that impressive info.
I'll look into it, being a variable orifice, I believe thats the cause of my problems.
So Russ, there isnt a expansion valve then?

Dear Russel,

I'm in the same case, I bought an orifice tube and I'm gonna replace it.
My understanding is that orifice is located inside smaller pipe of evaporator not in the condenser-evaporator line.
Just to be sure about location can you help me in the diagram below ?

Thanks in advance,
Fayssal

Old post.. From what I could remember. The Orifice was in the pipe near a flange joint..Behind the motor and To the back of the firewall. Next to the brake booster..
My wife's Feista is Right Hand Drive..
But the problem ended up being the Compressor..

Hi Bolly,

Thanks a lot for your help, my compressor behavior is different to yours so I'm suspecting orifice tube.

Regards,
Fayssal
