Russet coloured bloom on the ponds, Lori Short Reserve, Tempe.
 Currently a warm, overcast “heavy” feeling morning. Distant traffic; closer by the clucking of frogs and assorted bird calls. Almost nobody else around. |

A number of grey-headed flying foxes (estimated to be over 2000 of them) have set up home at the local lake. A lot of locals are not happy with the 'bats' being there as they are perceived as a pest. However, educating people that they are an endangered species, that they are very important to the ecological cycle by pollinating many native species of plants (n a similar way to bees), and that they have most likely been forced out of their normal habitat by the bushfires that raged through the east of the state last year soon starts to change that perception somewhat.
This pic was taken towards the start of this month. Since then, some have passed away or been injured during a couple of hot day events.

Please become familiar with your local wildlife rescuers phone numbers. Help our little critters, and if you can, shoot, trap and eliminate ferals. |
