Default The Tracksuit Travisty

I must be out of touch, getting too old or just completely out of the loop. It seems a new fashion trend is out in the streets. It requires sunglasses to embrace it in the current stage it is in and I'm keen to give a swift slap around the face to the person who decided it was the in and fashionable thing.

When I was growing up I was always encouraged to understand that presentation is an important thing in life. Presentation meant that people would take you just that little bit more serious - treat you like an adult perhaps. Whenever you left the house you should always have looked respectable and so today I keep the same value.

I think I came across the tracksuit travisty about 18 months ago now. It hasn't been long, though I'm sure it's been around for quite some time. It's just now the travisty grows. It grows large and I fear it is irreparable. The travisty came to light when I would go down to my local shopping precinct, only to find that people had some how replaced jeans or slacks - even corduroy - with the more comfortable cotton tracksuit alternative.

Yes that's right, the cotton tracksuit. In public.

I bit my tongue in the beginning. Figured that I would only be subject to seeing a comatose side of people that was usually confined to the home. You know... the lazy day where you don't feel like getting dressed. You wear those clothes that you have deemed crap enough not to wear in public.

Though... some how, it continued... and 18 months later it has spawned something even worse. The fluro and pastel coloured tracksuit. Now not only do I have to feel that when I leave the house for such locations as the shopping precinct I will be in the company of those that I feel are so lazy or don't hold high regard in looking respectable, but these tracksuit treasurers now rub my face in it by bearing the bold, cotton travisty.

Now I'm a 22 year old single male. I feel justified in knowing that if I escape the day to day routine and head out to the local shopping precinct be it for business or pleasure that I could bask in knowing that when I added said precinct that I would be able to enjoy a good gawk at passing young ladies. We all do it. Those who deny it are lying. HOWEVER... I feel now that when I see girls passing by in the pink, aqua, 'salmon', peach and god knows what other colours that I have to look away. I'm quite aghast at facing this irreparable travisty.

Now by going about saying all this, I am keenly wondering. Am I on my own here, or is it more than just a minority of people that are as evenly bewildered about the issue as I am?

I have trackies like anyone else but rarely wear them out of the house IF I wear them at all.

Some people don't care about personal appearance. And it is true that people take you more seriously if you make the effort to present yourself.

I won't deny having a perve either but trackies don't look as good as tight jeans :

im with ya all the way mate

im nearly 21 (yay no p's) and i am disgusted at the chicks/young ladies wearing "fashionable trackies" when i go to the shops.

trigger trackies in hot orange or hot pink are not a good look and are soo 6years ago atleast!

however there are still the few that get around in tight jeans which is good, but alas summers is around the corner. they are probably wearing the trackies now because they havent worked on there tans/shaved/waxed yet for summer

and thats my 2 cents

cheers
brendan

Because women are all here to serve the needs of men peerving on them.... _

If chics wearing tracksuits are worth the time to have a whinge about, I want to live in your world!

Perhaps they are all just following the 'bogan' trend started by stupid guys wearing any sort of pants they wear in the super cool spot 3 inches below their crack. This, supported by the Simpsons boxers, sideways cap and baggy shirt really scream 'well presented' to me.

Anyone remember the Adidas trackies from the late 80's early 90's, 3 flouro stripes on tight black ?nylon? trackies, they left nothing to the imagination, yeah complain about them.

I swear sometimes I thought I was trekking through the Sahara, never seen so many camel *cough* footprints.

this trend actually started in prison in the U.S.
inmates were given pants that didnt have draw strings (so they couldnt hang themselves), and as such, the pants hung low with nothing to hold them up.
this was taken to the 'street' as a sign to mean your hardcore, an ex con etc.
from t hat it was copied by every other wanna be and now its a "fashion"

WTH? Are you guys complaining about aviators? They're the best sunnies ever.

The kids are wearing big ugly 80's/90's sunnies now as the 'in' thing.

Whilst I agree chicks in trackies (especially pink and other coloured ones) look scummy (they're the typical slutty type girls who shop at supre usually) most of the time, I couldn't care less what I wear or look like. Chicks can look good in them anway. I mean, I wear baggy 90's fluro t-shirts from Hawaii, home made shirts with rogue traders are across them (my latest fav), leather jackets, dad's 70's adidas jackets, flannies anywhere including gold class movies and dinners, whatever. I've also had mohawks, swear words shaved in my head, dreads, afro's, multi colours etc etc.

Who really cares that much about what they look like. As long as you're comfortable and happy with yourself.

And yeah, I used to wear trackies a bit, haven't seen a pair that didn't look crap in a long time though so don't own any!

Do you seriously have nothing better to whinge about?

If you like, I will write up a nice theoretical post about how gay blokes my age look now wandering round in their pink shirts, bloody big sunnies, wristbands and all the other crap.

Haha lol, you obviously aren't a uni student. Its standard dress for anyone not in 1st year. Chicks in really tight tops and baggy trackies can look really hot if they have the body to pull it off.

Its funny you can always tell the people at uni who are in first year because it looks like there going to a club.
Everyone else wears trackies, unshaven and aviators, seriously though, come on Aviators are awesome!!

Maybe in Melbourne.

Up here in Qld I had to be careful not to injure myself walking into walls and other objects. Some of these lasses are half naked. Pants so low, and shirts so short, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I mean so low you can make out the top of the Y. And thats in winter, I have no idea how I passed.

HaHaHa on reading the first post i thought it was a 50 something year old typing away. I was waiting to see that ' in my day '
man if your in your early 20s and havent got a grip on the latest fashion,
maybe you shouldn't spend so much time in the library.
Maybe the tracky wearers aren't worried about what other people think.
'Tracksuit travisty', 'local shopping precinct'? man no wonder your single!

Let's not get too serious... b2tf: loosen your strap mate, not every thread put up on this forum is about a serious bitching session.

My post wasn't an outright whinge, it was a little fun and supposed to create a little discussion that was predominantly humourous.

And on the subject of them not caring... I don't reckon they'd pick bright colours to stand out if they weren't fussed about what they looked like. It commands attention, and whilst it obviously works it doesn't mean you have to appreciate it. I don't spend any of my time in a library - heh. I like to think I'm quite up to date with fashion and was merely pointing out the direction in which fashion is obviously heading if this is what is considered good looking.

And T-BOOST, it's a writing piece. You use different terminology. It's hardly like I'd be using such terms in person, lol.
