Default Juice Bars

I wanted to ask the good users of AFF their opinions on them.

Do people gain any actual nutritional benefit from consuming these Juice Bar drinks or is it more of a "fashion" thing???

Thoughts and opinions?????

Exactly my thoughts Im pretty sure (someone correct if Im wrong) but there is actually more natural sugar in fruit than what there is in most soft drink.

Well it's a fact that Boost buys juice in bulk from Berri. It wouldn't be such a bad thing if they didn't mark up the end product by approximately 538%.

Fruit juice is great, just not at $6.00 a cup!

Its a fashion thing I believe. Manily targets younger customers in shopping malls, to think that drinking overly priced juice is "cool". Very similar to coffee shops near schools....

There is more 'sugar' in fruit than softdrink. But the sugar in soft drink is refined and processed whereas the natural sugar in fruit isn't (therefore it's healthier). AFAIK anyhow :

Back on topic - I like them. If we're talking about places like Boost Juice and stuff (which I assume we are). I mean, it's not just juice - they add bananas, stawberries, rasberries (well, in the one I get anyway) and a whole bunch of stuff into them, I usually get a protien boost or something in them as well. Then again - I buy them to drink while I walk around the shops, not to take home (i'd make one at home, I'm not that lazy) :

That is true, they do add extra stuff. But the actual *BENEFITS* of these "shots" and the like is a steaming load of horseИИИИ. There have been a few studies conducted (and NOT by current affairs tv shows!) which show this, it's all pure bullИИИИ marketing in action.

But still, if the placebo works for you, good luck to you!
4: :party3:

That aside, it's still a LOT better for you than soft drink or alcomohol (especially XXXX or VB, both of which were brewed originally for the retarded mongoloid cretin market).

i've bought a few just to see what the hype is all about. But the looks ya get when ya start questioning what things are, are funny as!
I believe it's a fashion thing, seriously most of there customers are pink shirt, massive amounts of hair product guys and bug-eyed, pop-art coloured clothes, mop hair girls.
Then ya got me, usually looking like i just got up and put on what was on the ground closest to the bed.
Goto the supermarket and ya can get the stuff cheap!

I agree. The stuff they sell is OK but way overpriced.

Sorry? Adding protien (whey protien - the same I use for weight training) to my juice isn't just a placebo...

Don't know about the others, I really don't look at what others they have. I think there are some which are for "relaxing the mind" and stuff - I can understand your point on those perhaps...

i have a Pulp juice everytime I am at work, simply because of the way they quench my thirst. I do not drink them to be cool or to gain benefits, its just more refreshing and nicer then any soft drink available. i get one with tropical juice, passion fruit and some frozen youghurt (spelling) and it is delicious. they are a little over priced though

I don't drink them alot, it's whenever I feel like it or when I have the money to (: That and I don't have a blender.

It's nice though especially on the hotter days, but what I hate is the long lines of people queuing up for it.

Agree... Choice magazine did an independent review of the nutritional benefits of juice drinks from several juice bars, including Boost...

Found that there was little or no benifit in the additives like wheat grass, apparently you need something like a kilo of the ИИИИ to gain any benifit... The whey protien was a winner though... their conclusion went something along these lines: Go buy 2lt from coles... same nutritional value at a fraction of the cost...

I do however sometimes buy them... Not because it's healthy, just because I like juice and they are convenient... Happy to pay for the convenience...

I dont buy them, never have. As for convenience... i buy drinks in a bottle (or can). much safer as far as contamination goes and alot faster than waiting for a juice bar!

The biggest sellers at the Boost Juice bars aren't plain old juice though. Their smoothies are great. Breakie to go with protein boost is good if I've missed breakfast.
Sure you could still buy some - milk, TD4 low fat yoghurt, banana, muesli & ice cubes and make them yourself to.
Some nice looking chicks at my local Boost.

Haven't tried the wheatgrass shot. I watch numerous people drink them when i wait for my "fashion drink" & I've seen to many people turn their noses at it or even spit it out.

Only problem is they add 1 teaspoon. If you've tried a few weight training proteins you'll know 1 teaspoon is nothing like the 4 table spoons or half a glass of powder the buckets say to use.

I like your normal old fruit juice from coles

Crushed apple juice, or normal freshly squeezed orange juice.

Juice bars are for women in "power suits" and sneakers trying to look healthy, or penruff skanks trying to appear classy.

Had Boost Juice once at 9:00 pm (late night shopping) been working al day as a labourer for a tiler. Picked me up after a heavy 14 hour day. I tiled the Lions Den at Erina Fair. Tiles were extramly taky.

Saw these kids doing the wheat grass shot and you think they were shotting Tequla or something the way they were carrying on about it.

Freshly crushed/squeezed apple juice is apparently the equivalent to a cup of coffee but all natural.. not sure if it's true but that's what some nutritionist dude told me at the hospital when I was recovering from operations.

Did you get apple juice? :P

I find juice in general is a good pick me up.. but that's just me..
