this is the one that i reakon i could afford

http://www.edge.au.com/buggies_piranha.htm

dad wants me to buy one, and we could make most of it ourselves.

are there any buggy owners on here that could give me advise.

Holy crap, i remember when they first made that thing, it's freakin insane! At first i couldn't get over the twin dirtbike wheels at each corner! $72k is a huge asking price, but i guess it is essentially race car with almost every single component being designed, custom built and tested. Did it ever race in the aussie safari anything like that?

yeah those ballistics are insane! I'd love to see one in action! The amount of tube work that goes into them though, can't be too light!

wikid sticks, go for a full fledged two seater car sized buggy, definetly better value for money imo. I have a mate who is right into buggies. He owns....
- Basic 2 seater with unworked Datsun motor, good bush basher
- Full race-prepped buggy, lots of suspension, same datsun motor (1600cc i think), worked like crazy.... f@cking heap of fun!
- Pirahna design with a 1000cc odd sized twin cylinder road bike motor in it. Been very unreliable, although will put a HUGE smile on your face :

A lot of hours are needed to keep one of these going, you have to be pretty serious about working on it yourself, etc.

He races the race buggy, and is worth about $6k with trailer roughly. That would be what I'd recommend.

That'd thing would go mad! All you'd need is a paddock.

I did race buggy a few years ago and they take up alot of money, time and room plus you need a go tow car as they go al over thge place but it is alot of fun .You can buy a good racer for 10k in WA then you are looking at $2-300 each race ,the other things to look at is speed way ,AMCAM is a new class is WA and alot fun but I only race carts these days as they are is fun and cheap and you don't need a big car to tow them around ( mine fits in the back of my panel van ) but I still know a few people who race buggies so I could let you know when the next meeting is on .

here's my buggy ( well i swapped the oldman a EL wagon for it )

twin port 1600
VW in a tube chassis really
ignore the plate steel on the front, the Koni's are so soft the thing kept doing wheelies and wouldn't turn so I am messing around with weighting it down...

(you can see the 'General Lee' in the last photo primed and ready for paint)

im still deciding between the single and twin seater, my old man has a mate thats into em, and he said single seaters are heaps funner, but i like the idea of a passenger to scare hahaha

id proberbly put a z1000cc engine out of a kawasaki xz10. something big.

tibbo, that looks pretty beasty

heres a couple of twin seater pics

thanks Wikid, the only advice I can give you mate is to stick to one that is based around a 'car'... THe spare parts are 1/10th of the price of specialised gear... I had a quad and that thing seemed to eat money, I simply go to the VW wreckers now and can get almost anything for a few bucks...

Something for you to consider anyway..
