Default $23 deleivered car stereo from china - Am I missing something

I know we have an ebay thread, but this isn't stupid price expensive, this is crazy cheap. Am I missing something, or worth a punt.

What's in the box
USB cable × 1, iPod cable × 1, Front frame × 1, Cable set × 1, Set of Installation Hardware × 1, User's manual × 1, Remote control × 1, DVD host × 1

Doesn't say anything about the screen.....Unless thats DVD host?

$23 isn't going to break my bank.

I'm game. I'll report what happens...

The only reservation I have (and I couldn't care about that bit really) is the TV tuner...I've often read that foreign "TV tuner inside" head units don't work with our TV signal here in Australia. No big problem.

Remember what the old chestnut says: A Chinese factory making electronic goods (or any goods really) will usually have the brand name items in pretty boxes for their contracted customer going out the front door, and a copy of it in a plain box sneaking out the side door...

Especially given the price to manufacture things in China.
They quoted some ludicrous figure like the new iPhone 6 costing "$200 each" or something to manufacture in China...when they have staggeringly huge factories spewing out hundreds of thousands of them a day.

Sure they cost that much each to make...

Just use PayPal. They will give you your money back if it is dodgy and the goods don't arrive.

yeah i have heard that figure too, when you pick one up if feels like its full of air, doubtful it would even cost that much .

there are some pretty amazing deals on the net, i just got an au c/o reco rack for $ 250 + tax(275) from a dealer, which is apparently trade price ,

yet on ebay they have a brand new after market rack(no change over) for not much more delivered.... i`m thinking chinese? no idea how good they are.

Hope your car doesn't catch fire. I bought a cheap china torch that recharged from the lighter socket. After about a month the battery exploded as we were driving down the road. Absolute carnage. I actually thought someone had shot us. Lesson learnt, don't buy china ****.

Thats right, what is not made in china ? go for a walk through repco and find something aussie made, or any other store for that matter ,
if you find something aussie made whip out the smart phone and make a historic note.

Evil idea, perhaps we should have a thread where when shopping we take a pic of an aussie made product in store and put it up for all to see??? .....alas i think it would be a very short thread.

That's actually quite a good idea.

Short...damn short...thread would result...but it's a good idea...

That Alibaba site has some pretty damn good value on bulk deals with their stuff. No wonder some people make a comfortable bit of cash by reselling that stuff on the side. You could undercut stores here by 50% and still make a profit.

Yes you're right, everything made in china is number one super good quality. Yes you can get good stuff from china, at least someone told me you can. If you pay for crap you typically get crap. I've had my fair share of chinese junk. DVD player that shoots blue flames, exploding torches, dirt bikes that pop the fork seal first time out, cd players that last 6 months and **** themselves, etc etc etc

Common themes. All made in china, all cheap, all made to look good but not perform. Its all about how it looks to get that sale. I'm done playing Chinese roulette...

Please don't shoot the messenger.. The above link is way safer than buying through eBay.. Just don't buy cheap .. Son bought a Quad bike for the kids. Yea it was $480 for 110cc Honda copy.. It has had a few repaires.. Mainly bolts replaced with high tension in critical areas. It's 5 years old now still motors .. A Honda or Yamaha equivalent is around $4000 .. We KNEW it wasn't as durable as the Honda .. But the boys have learnt big time about servicing etc..btw it carries way over what is it's recommended weight limit..
I have bought a 2 post hoist not an issue.. But paid just under $2k .. Most are made there now.. Along with stuff from Bunnings, Hare and Forbes.. Don't like it but Gerry Harvey can't have it all to himself!!

Back in ye olde times of the early-mid 2000s computer components were all made in Taiwan by the bigger manufacturers like Gigabyte, now China has gotten their grubby mitts on that too.

Damn them!

The internal bits are cheap rubbish.

I bought a $99 caravan/car DVD/CD/Radio to install in one of our coaches. It got wired up, and tested twice (volume was very low even on highest settings), then it overheated and hasn't worked since. It's now been disconnected, because we were worried about the risk of fire.

I'm on a four wheel drive forum too, and this sort of discussion pops up now and then with four wheel drive accessories.
An example was a snorkel. Back when we had a 100 series Landcruiser, I wanted a snorkel for it. At the time most snorkels here in Australia were a minimum of about $400, up to maybe $600 plus fitting. Then some mob called Soong 4x4 (or close to that) started advertising out of Hong Kong. They had snorkels with full fitting kit for between one and two hundred dollars.
This makes sense...it's a damn piece of moulded plastic and some fittings. Someone on the forum noticed that the part number quoted on the Chinese website was the same as one of the big brand snorkels here in Australia...which was made in China too incidentally but selling here for hundreds of dollars more. The old "customers order out the front door, copy out the side door for us" deal again probably.

Now the price of snorkels has dropped dramatically in just the last few years, down to about a "normal" price of $199 for a kit.

People who angrily claim they would never buy Chinese rubbish had better not have too close a look at where most of their parts and accessories are made, even the "big brand dinki-di Aussie" ones...

I should note too that the Hong Kong 4x4 supplier (who did everything from fluffy dice to full diff lock kits and winches and turbos) responded in an interesting way when I sent an email inquiring about the snorkels.

They said in a reply that the cost on the website was for one snorkel, but "if you wish we can supply any quantity from several up to a container full or more, with increasingly lower prices per unit if you buy more".

No wonder people were making a killing on Ebay selling stuff like that...but twenty or thirty at a substantial discount over the already-cheap price, then sell them for a couple of hundred less than the price at the time of a snorkel here and you would make a huge profit.
However, as I said, now snorkels have dropped to a third of the price they used to be thankfully.

This happens with a lot of other cars parts too if you do some sniffing around...Chinese companies will happily deal with anyone, not just companies, who want to buy in bulk.
