Ask a cabbie. If its a common problem they will know about it, and might even know what to do

if the old strut ball is welded to the panel perhaps you can drill it and put a screw in type in there , bearing joints sell those strut balls, in variouse types i think.

Sounds like a good idea.
BTW I notice in your pictures that you have bubbles showing on the soft stuff that sits near there too. Any one else have that?? I do, was thinking seems a good place for rust to form |

There was a guy on the old site that repaired this - it involved welding though, IIRC.
Best bet would be to strip the area back to metal, treat with rust killer, then paint. Then weld on a new strut ball, and it should be good for a few more years. If there's any room under the panel, then you may be able to use one with a nut under the panel instead of welding. Mine hasn't rusted yet, but then we don't get much salt air in Canberra.

I fixed this on my falcon a little bit back. YOu need to die grind most of the old rust back, treat with die converter and weld a strut ball back on then paint. im due to do the other one at some stage soon i think. will take some pics as i go. Its probably something it wouldnt hurt to get done professionally though, as you can possible damage the paint on your quarter panel if it heats up too much.
