If you disgregard (maybe) my talk about the glove box bulb discharging the battery then I think we had similar problems - all due to an almost discharged battery - I finallly had RAC install a new battery on Monday and guess what .. all my very scary warning messages/flashing lights have gone away and all is now good. - so in my case problem solved by a new battery (the old one would simply not hold a charge for more than an hour or so)
I hadn't actually come across your post previously, even though I used the search function =[

Unfortunately I am away from home for the next couple of days, so I can't nip down and grab one, but I pulled out my log books etc and the battery was replaced about 3 years ago. It wasn't the greatest of battery when it came to standards, so I would say that is my problems.

Thanks everyone for your help and I will let you know how it goes.
