Having a bit of an issue atm with some very tired looking exterior plastics on the car - windscreen washer jets, side strips etc etc look very tired and have a white scaly buildup on them around the edges which im finding difficult to remove.
Surprisingly, the Meguiars Vinyl/Rubber Protectant which is usually very good cant seem to hack it, the white marks are very obvious even after i apply it. Im just wondering if there is a specialist product I can use to get it off?

Armour all will just wash off as quickly as you put it on.
Try Autoglym Instant tyre dressing. Just spray it on and let it dry. Or if you are worried about getting it all over the place, just spray it on a cloth and wipe it on. It will last for ages.

seriously dude... use any tyre shine spray.
i used it on my old truck to get all the plastics looking sweet... only needed to re apply after a few truck washes! so the stuff hangs around for ages and makes every look WET. :ymca: |

I used Armor Oil for a while, but found it dodgy. So now I have been using that Pyroil Silicon Lubricant. Like the others said tyre shine works as well.
Just dont use WD-40

Personally i use MOTHERS Back To Black. That stuff works miricles. It looks awesome, and brings the plastic back to a factory looking finish, and even better if you do it right. It gets rid of that crappy white chalky looking stuff, and makes them look brand spankers.
I recommend the stuff, so give it a go for yourselves.

i used autoglym tyre and bumper restore on the old EF. it done a fanatasic good. think autopro have got it.

Sounds like the Back To Black stuff is the go. Supercheap have a good special on Meguiars atm where you get a free product if you spend over $20 on Meguiars stuff, and you get a free lambswool washing mitt. Sounds good to me.

For all plastics, clearkote vanilla moose will take anything off in seconds and autoglym bodyshop 07b plastic and rubber restorer will give them that jet black look your looking for.
Side strips - if they are painted, you can either machine buff them with an edge pad and clearkote or if needed, menzerna intensive polish Or use clearkote VM by hand with a foam or microfibre applicator pad and then the 07B If you want lasting protection you can use paint sealants on them back to black and meguiars vinyl/rubber protectant will work on some plastics but if they are oxidised or stained enough, you may need clearkote And unlike the two above mentioned products, vanilla moose enhances gloss of glass, paint, wheels and is an oxidation remover for any surface. Get any excess VM on another surface, it comes straight off without any residue or mess with a clean cloth Good luck with your plastics.

I've found Back to Black the best - I apply to plastics with a brush pretty heavily, leave it be for a couple of hours and then take off the excess with a rag. Works on black painted metal surfaces as well. But for some reason doesn't do as well on my bumpers (different plakkie maybe?).
Only drawbacks I've found are to leave it soak in for a while, make sure you take off the excess, (otherwise the rain will smear it on the rest of the car) and don't get it on duco not black - it'll smear and is a little bit of a bother to get off. A really faded surface will need a couple of goes, but the more you use it the longer it is between applications. |

Glad somebody brought this back up. I picked up a can of Meguiars Tyre Shine over the w/e, and it works great on tyres but specifically says on the can NOT to use it on plastics? Ive used it on a tiny bit of the mudflaps to see what happens but Im just wondering why it would be ok for rubber but not plastic.
I think Ill get some of the Autoglym stuff anyway.
