Mudspats Anyone?

I'm thinking of getting some mudspats fitted to the car. It would make life much easier when cleaning those spots just behind the tyres. The tyre black they used before I got the car is STILL giving me grief! I haven't yet seen a LS Hatch with the mudguards, do they look ghey or ok?

yep, i agree with photn. Mudspats (although useful) just look crap! Everytime i see an XR6 with mudspats, i shudder :( It's like "YOU WRECKED YOUR CAR"

get big truck ones with naked chicks on them that go all the way across the back, at least then you can pretend you meant to make it look crap

(or pass it off as a rally car with strategically placed stickers)

I'm not opposed to mudspats as long as they are the small discrete looking ones like I used to have on my Laser.

I have 4 of them and really I don't mind them. That could be because my car's ink blue.

If there the plastic "moulded" ones, be aware that the plastic rubbing on the bodywork will eventually wear the paint off and your left with a strip of bare rusty panel.

Was thinking about the genuine Ford dealer fitted ones. I think They're $89 a set.

I'm not sure how they'd be rubbing on the panel to the point where they'll be damaging the paint unless the mudspats themselves are being rubbed hard against the bodywork with force.

Fine dirt will find its way in there pretty quickly, over time will rub against the paint due to wind or vibrations of driving. Give it 2 years on the car and it will be damaged (or at least it was on the Falcon I had)

I guess its a catch 22 situation with getting them or not. Damned if you do, damned if you dont.

Don't the mudflaps clip on and off? So you could still clean behind them

if you're having to clean behind the flaps though doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose?

As far as I know, they're actually screwed into the fender and mud guard.

I think the area of concern is the gaps between the clips (or screws) where the mudflap attaches to the panel. It would only be a small gap but big enough for dirt and road grime to embed itself in over time.
