Default change of air intake?

Hi all just wondering if removing the cover from behind the grille (in picture) will effect the airflow a little, or will it let too much crud into the piping? I was just going to bend the deflector back and cable-tie it secure.

(mk6 fez zetec.)

if you've got any suggestions that'd be great

thanks

That deflector is there so that the air going into the inlet pipe is actually cold air from the grill area.
Removing it will have no benefits what so ever.

Alot of people have taken it off. Doesn't really make a difference, the air still comes from the same place
