I saw this thing on tv tonight about google and it featured this new program from google, called keyhole. In a nutshell its a satelitte mapping program, with a bloody nice interface and very good mapping.
I've been looking up tracks in the US and UK, havn't looked to any places in Australia so I dont know if it mapped on there or not. You can trial it for 7-days at http://www.keyhole.com/ |

Keyhole is awsome, Sydney has a lot of detail as far west as Quakers hill area.
I can see my folks house in Quakers, but not mine in Vineyard. Stuff like the Grand Canyon, Empire State building, Ground Zero, etc, looks great. Rick.

Damn, thats bloody amazing!
loads still missing but what has been done is in amazing detail! The forum has a LOT of interesting links posted on it... Sydney CBD is just missed, which is a pity, it stops just at Central Station... Dunno about paying for it though...not complete enough for me to think about paying for it just yet.

Anyone notice in washington dc, they've blured the building called United States Capitol but the pentagon and the white house are not.

You should really check the forums out on the home page, they have posted links to EVERYWHERE!
Heres a link to most F1 tracks... Just right click HERE and choose "Save As" and save the file somewhere. Now run keyhole, choose File, Open and open the file you just downloaded...and on the left will now appear the links to the F1 tracks. This is how all the links on the forum work...very easy... Pity most of Aus hasnt been done yet though, although all the surrounding area where I live HAS been done! ;) HERES the Playboy Mansion! ;) Orange County Choppers ;) Ground Zero ;) Dream World, Sea World, Movie World That should get you started!

The only place I can't zoom in on is Caloundra. But I assume this is the same for everyone else.

That is the coolest thing i have seen for a while.
Found all of my houses in their spots across Australia. Thanks for the link M14A-Mclaren. This is great. P.S Some of these images must be old. I went to the Pentagon and it look likes it still been repaired from the Septemeber 11 attacks.

Where have you guys been getting placemarks? I can't seem to find a site with any. I found a large forum bbs but it was difficult to navigate and couldn't find any real information.

Nasa has a similar program called World Wind
Huge downloads but worth it when you finally get it set up. It's free as well.

ok, what i believe it does, is streams the images off the net, because obviously 20mb or so is to small for what it contains. Therefore, i would say anyone with a slow connection speed, or who is downloading, it will take longer to load, if you leave it, it should clear out to a resonable extent

Ok I'll let it load a bit longer, I do have broadband though.
EDIT: just let it load and came up clear! Awesome! |
