Hah this tax grab, lets face it that's what it is a morally corrupt government profiting.

This tax grab is just the tip of the iceberg for what will no doubt be coming, wall to wall labor governments (none of which can manage money) leaves me with no doubt the GST will rise within K.Rudd's first term, people will and moan about it, then vote him back in at the next election, just like the people of Victoria who continue to vote in the pack of incompetants we have running the state.

Sorry I just have no confidence in Labor to steer the country through the tough economic times ahead

Petrol may be expensive to run your car on but as a mixer, it's as cheap as it gets.

OH MY GOD!! Last carton of Bundy cans I bought was about 6 weeks ago. I paid $55 for it. I hadn't checked Bundy on boozle but just did and the best price in my area is $76.

edit - just widened my search and found Spiro's at Toowong dor $49.99. Might go for a drive me thinks.

Pure profiteering IMO, as others have said it is something the govt know that people will purchase (like fuel) so they see it as a 'constant' form of revenue just like fuel is and also speeding tickets and stuff like that they know we have to use our cars and there will always be revenue from such things.

I dont drink a heap i mighty buy a carton of beer once every fortnight. But i do need my car though : .

BTW BWS down the road has JB cans for $86 : Tooheys Extra Dry for me $35

I bought 4 cans of Johnny Walker last night for $11.70, and whilst I was there I seen the price of cruisers. Instead of 8 for $20, they were 7 for $20 now. Can't see that having much of an effect.

Thumbs down

Stupid bit is it will be cheaper for the young one's to buy a bottle now and really be able to binge. And where as before they would have their own can or stubby they will be passing a bottle around so drink spiking will be on the up also. I think it is just a bull shyte scheme for more tax

but thats the idea, younguns start drinking their vodka straight, tax goes up on bottles of spirits. kids move back to premixes, more tax on that again. kids swap sides again, and more tax increases, etc etc..

Place a tax to solve Binge drinking
Add money to Goverment who's fighting to curb inflation etc.

Corrupt is putting it nicely.

Does anyone else think this hike is more klikely to push people to other methods of mindaltering substances??

Now i am not a drug taker but i have friends that are and its now becoming better value to go get a hit..

I used to average $120-$150 a night when i went out including taxi's.. Last night it cost me over $200.. Absolutely rediculous..

I believe this is only going to profit Dealers and the Government..

Apparently of all the revenues raised from the tax hike the government is only going to put $1mill towards "increasing awareness".. What a load of bull.. That just means we will see more of those useless tv ads..

Seriously who voted for this fool???

Cheers,
Nik

haha this wont do anything. When i was 15 and 16 we never had 60 bucks a weekend to buy a slab of mixed drinks so u would get either a straight bottle or if ur really desperate a goonie. Mixes were for special occasions!

Next thing you're gonna tell me is that reconcilliation & kyoto won't cost us anything. Oh well, atleast the $1bn pulled from DoD should help keep our taxes reasonable

Guy's there are plenty of places/forums you can vent politics, but not on AFF.

alcohol and the increase of the mixers is the the thread topic.

Come to Singapore you can pay $33 (aussie) for a jug of local brew. $42 for a bottle of Jim Beam, Johnny, Smirnoff. Its not cheap to drink here.

Lol.

What you say is true. People will start using alternatives.

It costs my mate around $3 to get high and despite been illegal the consequence is a slap on the wrist, and you can almost buy it anywhere.

Thanks to Rudd we're gonna see alternative methods of altering the state of mind.

I'm sure he knows that, just doesn't care. After all it's MONEY!!!!!

I second the "home brew".

I've been doing it for nearly two years and loving it! Taste a load better at
a faction of the price!

its gotten to the point that a line of coke and a couple of pills is cheaper then a night on the grog, but atleast binge will become less of a problem.

Statistics show that alcohol is far easier to OD on than either of those 2 drugs.

They're all bad in the end. If they really cared about binge drinking they'd implement a system limiting the amount of drinks people could purchase per day.
