Default New chrome strips or rechromed?

I need some advice on chrome strips for my AU Fairlane. They have all bubbled and cracked. Is it still possible to buy new ones? Would it be cheaper to carefully remove them and get them rechromed?

It must be a problem with the cheap chrome as mine on the LTD are doing the same thing.
My car has always been garaged and kept polished but the chrome strips on the bumpers has started to bubble.
I will also be interested if it is easy to take the old strips off and either replace or re-chrome.
