Default Resale getting silly

I am looking to buy a couple of new cars and as large cars seem to be good value I was looking at BAs. I found a nice Ghia with 40k on it for $15k and nearly grabbed it until I wandered into the Nambour Ford shop.

2007 BF2 XT for $16k, Futura for $17k and XR6 for $21k all with 25-40km. Wot tha?

Obviiously they are ex rentals or whatever but how crap is the resale on B series?

At those prices I think I will give the Z a holiday and drive a BF2 for a while.

after more than 10 years of paying cash for cheap cars, reading stuff like this makes me seriously consider getting finance for an 07 BF.

your probably better off getting a personal loan for say 17 and paying that off, depending whre you go, as the interest rate on a finance package will probably be in the facinity of 20%
our personal loan were with now is only 9 i think, instead of the esanda 19 or something...

....... Or take some equity off your house to buy a cheap car at a cheaper rate than any personal loan!

my bank's online calculator estimates 14.25% but i guess i would have to call them to confirm.

i could, it would just hurt to see that much re-appear off the principal i've already paid off.

I needed a wagon to carry stuff around in and do high K's as a daily driver so i just bought an immaculate 2002 AU2 wagon on gas with 90k's on it, new tyres and brakes all round for 10K drive away... You'd really have to have spare folding sitting around to justify a new car at the moment given the 2nd hand bargains around and massive depreciation on new ones...

bought a feb 07 bf2 egas wagon for 16k couple of months ago. km's are high for age (74k) but still good value for me. considering they are over $37k new thats a huge drop.

Everyone I knew wondered how a P-Plater could afford a BA, and that was 2 years ago.
The prices at the auctions are just rediculous! Heaps of dealer have just stopped bidding the prices up and they're not even selling.

06/07 XR6Ts with ZF for $16K and 60-70,000km.
Its great for people who buy 2nd hand cars, but it doesnt help the new car sales.

City Ford here in Melbourne has a LOT of 6sp auto 07 BF2 Falcons for sale at $18,000 drive away.

Red Book trade value for my 2004 one owner XR6 is $10k - $15k. Now that's cruel. I have seen a lot of crap around for sale at $10k.
A BF2 sure is tempting....

i asked a few dealers what they'd pay for my 2003 BA Fairmont, 130k.... just out of interest, most said 'oh 6 or 7'.

i mean, seriously.

Just heard that new car sales are down 22% from same time last year.

Who would want a new car when you can get something only a few years old for 1/4 the price???

go for something a couple of years old and you can what you only dreamt of as a brand new car, we paid 20 for our 2003 fairmont ghia 2 years ago, its droppeed even more since then but who cares, at least we have a once top of the range car for the cost of a new small car...

It's called the market...sucks though.
Even the 2000VTII with about 90,000kms and still mechanically great will be worth absolutely nothing on the market now.
That's why we'll keep it until it pretty much becomes a derelict wreck.

No jokes about it already being one....please.

Thats all its worth.. For a dealer to wholesale that car thats all they are going to get for it.. If they take a gamble, get it roadworthy / detailed and spend whatever it requires, then offer it with a statutory warranty they are going to push to get 12 - 13 kay for it...

Glad I traded my BA XT Classic in for $18k 10 months ago...If I waited till now you could knock 10k off that....But then the GT is probably $15k less than I paid then too so its all relative.

I say never get hung up on outright sale prices..changeover price is what counts....i.e. for an 8k trade in on your Fairmont you could upgrade to a 2007 model for around 15k change over. A year ago you may have got $15k for your Fairmont but the 07 model would have been $30k , so the change over would have still been $15k

Thing is you can go to the auctions and buy 2007 BFMKII Fairmonts (the last of em) for $16500 with 40 kay on the clock...

Go down to auction, can pick up BA XR6 for under $10K as with most BA's. BF's can be had for around $13K mark most models. Only the turbos are holding any sort of value.

Its absolutely brilliant for people buying their first new car, horrible if you are trying to sell though.

Whats the average for a BF2 Ghia?

You can probably safely take 10 to 15% off the advertised price too....

Geez, I was really lucky to get 17K trade in on my optioned 95K 04 BA XR6 in February - plus a great deal on the new car too.

I also saw a 2000 LTD on 18's on ebay last night for about $5k. Tempting.

But 14-17% for a personal loan? Keep shopping- maybe try a credit union. The most I have paid for a personal loan back when interest rates were high was 11.5%. Finance on the Mini and Subie are in the 5-7% region, but are novated leased and business use CHP. 14-17% - you could buy it cheaper on most no-frills credit cards like BankWest (11.79%) for that.

Definitely a buyers market though.

Got my 1 year old 07 BF MkII F6 Typhoon for $41,500 on road with 33000kms, the original first owner would've paid $75-80,000 new with the options he had thrown on when he ordered it, his loss my gain but on the flip side got $6000 for my S1 AU XR8 after I paid $30,000 for it 7 years ago and then poured more into it:(

Take the money off your home loan and make sure you repay the amount you drew in 3-5 years (plus interest) and you've effectively got a personal loan @ 6.20%

When I rang around esanda they quoted 12% and my bank (bankwest 11%) but you tell one of the other and they reduce or if you buy from a dealer they'll generally beat it. January this year I got 9.5% i've never paid over 10%
