Default AU Hazard Lights Flashing

I degreased the engine bay on my AU Fairmont wagon and was carefull to cover the alternator etc. I dried the bay off with compressed air. Now when I start the car the hazard lights will flash for about 60 seconds, or will randomely come on whist driving. This happened last time I cleaned the bay, and a mate (auto elec) some how reset the factory fitted alarm system, could this be the case again ? If so, does anybody know what the procedure is ? or is the issue not related to the alarm system. Any hints appreciated. (Note to self. go easy with the water!) :

Sounds like alarm to me. The siren on my factory fitted alarm doesnt work so i will sometimes find the hazard lights flashing if something has set it off. Have you tried switching the alarm off then back on again with the little key?

No, not yet that's probably the next move. I just remember that last time this happened we went through this procedure like leave the drivers window down, remove the key from the ignition, lock the vehicle, put the keys back in the ignition, unlock the vehicle, stand on one leg etc..etc..and all was fine. Thought there might be a standard procedure to reset the system after a (alarm battery) replacement etc.

Default Re: AU Hazard Lights Flashing

After degreasing the engine bay I had the same problem with my 1999 AU millennium XR 6 Fairlaine .
The hazards lights developed a mind of their own, and would not switch off.
Someone this forum suggested switching off the alarm module and unplugging its cable. Whoever it was who suggested this was SPOT ON!
Because the plug is on top of the module and the grommet was no longer water tight because of its age, moisture had entered into the connection socket.
An afternoon in the sun with the bonnet open and the cable disconcerted fixed the problem. Now All good Again.
