Default I want one of these bad

When I was 14 (I am now 43), I worked on school holidays , 1 off the employees where I worked had a 4 door Mk3 cortina with a front air dam, rear ironing board and a shaker hanging out of the bonnet, it was running a V8 of some sorts.
I fell in love with the car and was always impressed with the burnouts this weapon would do.
Ever since I have always wanted to build something similar but wanted to build a 2 door version. About 12 months ago I had mentioned this to a friend of mine and he said I was mad and why did I not just import 1 out of the UK, I thought he was pulling my leg and never realised that they were a factory produced vehicle.
They do pop up occasionally and I have recently found this one and want it bad, but the usual story I have to get rid of a couple of other cars first.
Oh well it is always good dreaming about it.

click on that link and abandon all hope. There are some very desirable cars for sale on that site - especially if you click on Lotus cars and then select the Espirit.

Oh to have a bit of spare cash

Theres very few Peranas left around though. I remember seeing a Granada one at Small Ford Sunday - it was an auto, one of 2 left of 12 ever built IIRC. Had a pic somewhere, orange in colour, vinyl roof.

ah here we go

It's not exactly your dream car but this is a picture of my cortina TD hill climb car project, which has stalled over the last few years. I replaced a successful escort racer with this project, while it is interesting due to the wide interchangeability of parts, it seems to me that is largely an effort of making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Whereas the escort is a naturally sweet handling car, a cortina is naturally a poor handling machine. It's not just the weight distribution of a heavy engine in a light car, it is also to do with limitations of the front suspension which generates positive camber under bump, difficulties in lowering ride height and retaining spring length, getting decent wheels under the guards, and locating the rear suspension which has a lot of lateral movement. Basically, they feel somewhat wooden and prone to roll steer. I don't know whether this is anyones else experience with the cortina, mine has koni adjusable shocks, and combination of TC and TD bars. Tellingly, the TC has a front swaybar, yet on the TD this is deleted and a swaybar is added to the rear suspension; I'm not sure ford ever got them right.

They're a handsome shape though, and so easy to work on.

A two liter Cortina wil handle much better than a six cylinder one...when I had my 4.1 TE Rally Pack, I corrosponded with som guys in a Cortina club in England (before the internet...) and they said they were constantly amazed that us idiots in the colonies would chuck such a huge heavy iron lump in the front of what was designed to be a four cylinder car...
It did make it go like the clappers, but it also made them into a bit of a lead-tipped arrow...

I've seen two door Cortinas coming out of South Africa in the past...I believe they had the 3 liter V6 that you found in the Capri here...

I had a TC SL/E with a 250 in it. Of all the cars I've owned, that's probably the one I miss the most - bought from a little old lady and cleaned up a clown in a VB going through a red light.. Written off 20 years ago. :(

You should keep an eye on the below link, its from FAF (not to be confused with FFA) - theyve got a dedicated Cortina market that is active & may be able to help you in your quest...

http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/f...Cortina-Market

U should buy an old & neglegted one & then do a resto you can post here in the Project Cars thread

If you want to buy one with a V8 see below.

http://www.fordmusclecars.com.au/vie...sp?ItemID=9645

I don't think you can register a new conversion anymore you need to buy on that is already registered and engineered. I dare say you can never let your rego lapse either.

Love the Corty's

Thinking seriously about importing one of these from the US, there cheap as chips and would be a weapon with the right engine combo.

This thing is brilliant. Truly street driven too. It lived in the next suburb from me in Canberra a few years back. Sounds awesome in real life.
