Default KB Laser problems

I'm having a few probs with the Laser. She konks out sometimes when I put the brakes on. Thats the first problem. Now the second problem: When going up hills with the foot to the floor she only wants to do about 40 K's. It doesn't blow smoke and it isn't noisy (Just a slight tappet noise). I have put a new air filter in it 3 days ago.
If anyone can help me and advise me on possible causes for what could be stuffing the old girl up then I'd be mighty greatful.
Thanks fella's.

Auto or Manual mate? Up a hill in your 1.3L/1.5L carb, it's not going to go very fast. In an auto even slower. You can't expect too much mate, find a less steep route.

Get back to me on what transmission it has.

It's an 1.5 auto. I can get it up to 80 K's on the hills I drive up without the car struggling very much but today it was struggling at half that. It was tuned up 2 months ago (Oil change including filter, Air filter, Fuel filter, New plugs. It has an elec dizzy so didn't need points).

When was the timing last checked?
Is it possibly a bad batch of fuel?

Revcore,

Did it start playing up overnight, and both the power loss and the stalling start at the same time? If it did, you could try the following (this is what my mechanic mate did did to cure the stalling and power loss in my early 80's 1.5L mazda 323):
Take the top off the air cleaner, swap plug leads for cylinder 1 & 2, then start the car. let it run for a bit and then shut it off. then swap the plug leads back. Do the same for plugs 3 & 4.
Finally, spray carby cleaner down the throat of the carby. Start again, and let it run for a bit. finally, put the top back on the air cleaner.

It started playing up yesterday morning as soon as I left the servo when I put $20 worth in. Before then it was going well. So I'm guessing there may have been a bit of water in with the petrol (The fuel supply tank at the servo may have been low with a bit of water seeping into it). I'm going to take it for a drive again today and see how it goes. If it's still the same then I'll do what your mechanic mate said.
Thanks for the advice.

Bad batch of fuel could be the problem. Personally i'd empty it out (should be a bolt on the bottom of the fuel tank like the sump) and refill with a Premium fuel with some additives.
