Default Sportsman V8 or T2 TL50?

Like it says on the pack, would you have a T2 TL50 or a Sportsman V8?

How do the equipment levels compare? ie. I don't think the TL50 has the 10 way memory seats.

How does the driving experience compare? Is the extra few kw's worth the effort? Is the suspension and braking that much better?

What make the TL50 a better car, or a more desirable car, than the Sportsman V8?

I'm hoping those in the know can paint me a picture.

Cheers

I think you will find the handling package overall would be nicer in the T2, springs, brembo's etc. whereas a sportsmans is a fairlane with mags and spoiler and whilst looking quite good don't offer anything overly special compared with the normal fairlane, just a dress up pack.

Feel free to correct me if im not 100% up with the facts as im drawing from my sportsman from the nf days

The T2 without a doubt....Far superior handling over the Sportsman V8, Probably a lighter vehicle too.

I think the TL50 would have the memory seats as my T3 one does.

Got a mate with a dark blue Sportsman and its pristine in condition but rides like a Fairlane. Power and stopping is the same.

A TL50 was much more expensive for a reason.

Whilst the early TL50's have not held up that well value wise they can't be had as cheap as a Sportsman and should always do better into the future. True you could make a Sportsman handle & stop as well as a TL50 but I would rather get a TL50 and spend some money on upgrading the 5.0 litre.

Mine is an awesome cruiser and hwy car

Yeah Cheese, it's a real question. I'm not at all familiar with the TL's so I cam to the oracle here.

I like my Sportsman but am wondering about upgrading to a TL. I just wanted some thoughts.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

Cheers

It is a tough call, but having driven both and pretty much owning both, I'd say the Sportsman V8. I'll explain though..

The equipment levels are basically the same. Electric everything, climate control etc. The leather on the seats are different. The sportsman having the softer and more comfy leather, whereas the TL having the tighter more supportive leather. The bolsters on the TL seats allow you to get through things a little quicker as they really hold you in. You may find yourself slipping out of the sportsman seat if cornering too hard..
The sportsman have full memory 10 way seats. The T2 TL does not have that.

The suspension is that much better. Also the brakes. But it does come down to how you drive. Also, the TL suspension is stiffer/tighter, so it feels a little more 'jarring' on the road. With the 18" wheels as opposed to the Sportsman's 17", you do feel a few more bumps.
It all depends on what you prefer I guess.
The brakes are 287mm front rotors on the Sportsman and on the TL they are 329mm Tickford brakes with a revised booster/master cylinder for better braking. They share the same rear brakes. Albeit the TL's are slotted.
Also, the extra kilowatts may not be fully 'worth it'. But the Tickford V8's are pretty good compared to the standard..
They breathe a lot better and you can feel the difference between them.
For day to day driving though. I'm not sure whether you would really care.

There are a few things that make it more desirable.
Low build numbers (with build plate). There were only 12 T2 TL's.
Unique body styling
Bigger brakes
Koni suspension
A unique interior unavailable in the Fairlane.
The name TL50.
Hand built V8.
ESS automatic transmission only available in the T-series cars.

Hope that helps Muz.
For a day to day car. I would have a Sportsman over the TL.
You can park it anywhere, people can steal your badges if they like, haha and if it's involved in an accident, you can most likely obtain the parts to repair quite easily.
The TL however is a great car to 'enjoy'. Wind the windows down, engage ESS and hit the winding hills. You'll love it..

What are you looking to get out of each car..?
Is it for a daily or a weekender..?

Cheers

TL50 any day of the year. Not just for the looks which are 1000 times better but for all the extra go, stopping and cornering potential.

Kristo, legendary! That's exactly the sort of info I was after.

I love my Fairlane but got to thinking over a few beers that a TL might be the go.

I shouldn't spend money on another car at the moment but the heart want what the heart wants...

Common sense has prevailed and I'll stick with my current Fairlane. I hear what people say about the TL50 and it's very tempting but with the number k's I do it would be a shame to wear one out...

I'm buying my daughter a car instead... Damn kids.

TL50 is the Ultimate LWB Car, Followed by the Sportsman and the base model fairlane.
