Hi,
Just tried to do my first service on the 2010 focus. The sump plug doesn't have a bolt with a head, it has a bloody H8 allan key fitting for some idiotic reason. Anyway, after jacking the car up, removing the stone guard, i fitted the h8 key but it only spins, at some stage during the workshop servicings this thing has been rounded of on the inside of the hex fitting. I'm not describing this well but I'm sure people out there will know what I'm trying to say. Anyway, I doubt very much if this is the first time this has ever happened since the cars release, so does anyone have any ideas of how the heck i can remove this thing? I plan to replace it with a normal sump plug with a bolt head on it. My mate suggested filing the whole up with araldite, inserting the h8 key in and let it set for a week, or even do a spot weld and weld the key to the plug then remove, but I am seeking better options. thanks bb |

Just tack weld a nut onto the bung, and use a normal socket. If you don't feel confident welding, a fabrication or just a mechanical place should be able to do it in minutes.
