Default Scammers now using mobile phones?

hey guys, i recieved a strange sms message tonight..
Phone number was +233 547891253
It reads: (oh and spelling is correct here)... "Congrat!!Your mobile number has won $2,000,000 USD in the freelotto mobile promo. For claims, send your details to: fiduciaryagent@winning.com & call +447035924026."

They seem to be trying all sorts of tactics now! Has anyone else recieved one of these?

Cheers
Scott

I spent the night in the city last weekend with the better half and she told me she had a missed call from a weird number... sorta talking out loud... then she said, I'll just call it back.

I asked her to hand me the phone to look at the number... started with +87...

Told her it was an OS number (although she does have many OS friends).. Anyway, asked hotel reception on checkout and they looked it up.

Told me it was a country called "Inmarsat".. never heard of it we both said.

Your msg prompted me to look it up myself, and "Inmarsat" is a British satellite telecom company not a country lol.....

Still wondering if it was a scam. Glad she didn't call it back but.

The way phones are going now, basically mini computers, it will only be a matter of time when they get hacked with messages, and calls from automated systems asking you to press whatever number to accept the hackers request.

Cheers!

Wow! Getting an SMS is one thing, but phone calls... That's bad! Perhaps it could have been a reverse charge type of thing? The company gets commision when u answer, or call it back? Good stuff discovering it wasn't a country lol

This is why I never have, and never will, enter any competition or take part in any marketing promotion at all that requires me to do so via sms. Once your number is on these databases you wont know who has access to it.

I know i do :( I havent entered for any competitions using my phone, so if they are using facebook as a source aswell, then there will be alot of people who will get these. And some will fall for it.

I received one of these this morning. I dont know how they get your mobile number? I have listed my number with the Do Not Call register to stop receiving marketing calls etc but this one got through...

Maybe they have bought an old list from a marketing company?

I've gotten an SMS and a phone call too. The missed call was from London though for me.

No I don't have my number on facebook. That's why I find it strange that they got my mobile number and were able to match it to my facebook account.

I had a strange missed call one day, the phone rang once then it hung up.

It seemed a bit fishy so I waited till I got home and googled the number, to see if it was a business or what.
Seems a fair few people had gotten it aswell, and apparently once you called back it was a recording advertising some product.

Mobile phones as computers...yep.
That is why I am sticking with my crappy Sony Ericsson candybar phone. It makes calls and it sends SMS messages. When I want a phone, I don't need games, or a 15.2 megapixel camera, or a doomsday device attached.

I just want a phone.

THe less complicated crap you have, the less that can go wrong.

Mind you, I am mindful that people need complicated phones for business/work, and that is fine, but a lot of people I know get them simply bnecause they can...wanting the newest crap...

IMO, the old adage still rings true: The best things in life are often the best.
