Many years ago (my dad payed) but a rebuilt 4 speed zf for my first car cost $3500. That crapped itself only weeks after the NRMA certified trans place that did it went bust. So that sucked as there was a 6 month warrenty. Anyhows the mechanic i towed the car to showed me that the old box was physically dropped and booger welded back together, hence the failure due to atf not getting to where atf needs to go. So best option was a used tranny and he asked me to give him time sourcing one. He didnt want to get an off the shelf from a wreckers, he wanted one from a part out that was still drivable so he could road test it. For $800 the thing was still good for the next 110,000km before i sold the car.
