Lighten up, the whole idea of an enthusiast forum is for people people come here to float ideas
about Ford's vehicles and their ideas on some versions, there's no harm in exploring possibilities.

In some ways it's educational to get measured discussion back and forth, talking out certain
proposals also gives people some idea of the marketing and design issues faced by Ford.
It's also an opportunity to refute and suggest why the vehicles shouldn't be made,
educating people along the way that even though a lot of vehicles are possible,
they get knocked out for a multitude of very good reasons.

From time to time we hear from "the Real McCoy" (not me) who gently nudges us
in the right direction and we all learn something very interesting and the light bulb goes on.

Thanks JPFS1,
Either a decision on the next car is due soon or Ford is picking up even more design work for other regions...
An announcement on the next Falcon would give immediate stability and quell some falcon is dead chatter,
that uncertainty wouldn't be helping sales at the moment...

Ah no no not to some, you need to be verified and sanctioned, show ownership papers of a Ford brought within the past 2 years and be a baby boomer in order to have a valid opinion.

FPV are hiring aswell, small numbers but expanding nevertheless. Ford also have some jobs advertised in PD.

Meh, the thought police have their moments too, some enthusiasts get carried away with emotion
and lose grounding thinking that they represent a greater slice of the buying public than they do.
Live and let live I say, so long as opinions and proposals aren't projected as imminent releases by Ford.

I'm hoping this signals a step up in the economy and buyer confidence is returning.

It all sounds like major project design work is about to start, whether
that be for next Falcon or more cars in our Asian region is up for grabs...

Since FG III or whatever Ford decides to call the 2013 Falcon is now well inside two years,
the work on that must surely be at sign off and the next large car plan being reviewed.

I wonder in the great scheme of things whether Falcon is is a minor blip on Ford's global radar,
Id oubt that designing it as FWD or RWD would have any adavantage to company heads
or suppliers outside Australia, I suspect that FoA could go anyway they decide so long as
the business plan stacks up....

Fingers crossed FoA gets to work with lots of new technology to improve our local cars...

There is an advantage if it's rear wheel drive, they can use it globally. Lincoln comes to mind.

If these jobs are for Falcon you can bet it's RWD. Why would it be fwd if next taurus is already in the works?

As i read it, that's $20 million for E8 replacement and also for E8 project in 2012, look what's buried in the text:

Quote:
The Government will provide an immediate grant of $32.5 million consisting of $12.5
million for the T6 Design and Development Project and $20 million for the E8 Falcon
Replacement Project.
And a further grant of $20 million will be made in 2012 for the E8
Project.
These Projects themselves will create approximately 273 new jobs and will
reinforce Ford’s manufacturing operations in Australia. Significantly, the R&D centre that
Ford Australia will construct to support the T6 Project will represent a critical step in
positioning Ford Australia for the global market. These projects will allow Ford Australia to
become a leading centre for automotive design and engineering in our region and will
build on the success that Australia has already demonstrated in this field.

Yes I agree, I read it the same. Appears the government was willing to invest in FOA from 2006, I would assume that investment is still valid.

So.... maybe that $20 million covers development of business and styling plan for the E8 Falcon's replacement?
How could Dearborn ignore that kind of funding, surely that puts another own design Falcon in the box seat...

20 mill doesnt buy a lot in automotive development terms - I would say it is to do with preparatory study and project/establishment work required for the vehicle development itself.

In any event, the hirings required by the posted advert all point to one thing - a very substantial vehicle development project is about to commence at Ford Australia. It can't be CD4 because that's well and truly on it's way, and I would suggest its bigger brother is as well. Would such a substantial hiring and investment be made for the next gen Falcon?

I would have thought it would be for the next global RWD that Ford USA want for their Lincoln, but the USA aren't as good at making IRS RWD's. Remembering that the cessation of the Crown Vic has also killed the TownCar, Ford USA doesn't currently have a replacement to the most successful limo in the USA. A new town car LWB RWD with IRS would sell like hot cakes in America, and powered by a Ecoboost it would be a winner on size, handling, comfort and economy.
One thing to bear in mind, at its heydey the Towncar was selling up to 30,000 vehicles a month.
