Water restrictions..hose vs bucket

we recently went to level 3 restrictions,my friends and I agree that you use more water cleaning your car with buckets then you do with a hose...opinions please.

There are connectors and trigger jets that are water saving and lock off the water when not in use.

At least you have town water ... I rely on the sky to fill my tanks.
Or pay someone to clean my car ... as I don't have time to do it myself ... plus as I get older ... I get lazier

You are right about the hose v bucket - the rules are there to discourage you from washing your car - and for the idiots who will hose too much.

I put 3000lt of water tanks in with a pump. When I wash the cars with the hose hooked upto the tanks I get lots of nasty looks from people passing by.

I am waiting for the water police to turn up.

If you just wanted water for washing a car a 1000lt tank with a cheap pump would be more than enough.

After living on tank water it uses more water to wash your car with buckets than a hose,(use a Car Wash?)

Stood filling the bucket to wash the car, seemed to take ages...seemed longer to fill 2 buckets than the whole time the hose is on with the trigger and jet.

You know what i think it is.... i think bucket sales are down and they are secretly paying the government to make u use buckets instead of hoses so they get more profits!!!!!

I have a large bucket with a tap near the bottom which I connect to my Karcher pressure cleaner. So I can hose away all I want nice & legal.

I put the car on the lawn. Quick spray all over (30 secs). Fill bucket with warm water & detergent, wash car all over out of this with soft brush. Then another quick 30 second rinse spray. I'll bet all up its no more than 2 buckets of water.

NSW at least you can't attach a pressure washer to mains water must be tank or bucket like I do.

Will a pressure cleaner run out of the bottom of a bucket or is there a special cleaner. Someone told me karcher make a special type to run from a bucket.

A friend of mine did the test ,18 secs to rinse car ,1+1/2 minutes to fill 3 buckets.

You actually have to have a sign up to do this stating that your using Tank water otherwise you can still be fined i believe...

Other then that you may also need a permit from your local council not 100% sure.

Its bull****, To wash my territory I use approx 10 buckets of Water, and thats only doing a half assed job, the worse part is the car drys so quickly as the water doesnt sit on it when your using a bucket.

Pretty much any will work of a bucket. Saves water, your car & your sanity.

The hoses which have pull triggers use very little water, whereas buckets use a heap more.

I know this as i work in a butcher.
You would save water using the trigger hose.

I checked with BCC about the sign thing and you dont need it here I can't say what other local councils require.

I just put one up to show we are using tank water.

I'm lucky, I can head over to our bus depot. It's hidden up the back of an industrial area. Then I can hose away to my hearts content.

If I wash the car at home it has to half hang out on the road in the driveway because it's too wide to fit in the other driveway on the grass.

Washed our cars about 8 times so far this year , thats about how many "rainy days" we've had . Otherwise just a bucket full of water to wash the windows . Country town & we're not on any water restrictions , because everyone knows if it's summer or drought you don't wash cars , water lawns or gardens . Out here you can wash your car , get a bit of a breeze & it's worse than when you started.
IF the car gets too bad , we just go to the car wash & give it a quick rinse for a "cupla bucks"

I think it was on ACA or one of those shows about 12 months ago where they proved you used more water using buckets than a hose sensibly.

I used to pull mine into the back yard and close the finece at around dusk but we just moved into the neighbourhood and I don't know what my neighbours are like...whether they would rat on me etc so I've kinda stopped washing now.....

rig up a bucket(the handy pail type at supercheap and bunnings that is thicker and more sturdy than your normal 75c type) with a hose fitting with tap built into the bottom/side and stand it on another upsidedown bucket

fill said bucket with water then attach a karcher or superworks high pressure washer to the fitting
then turn on karcher and wait for the water ot start pumping thru (pull trigger till it starts spraying stongly) then use till the bucket gets low and top up with additional water from another bucket that you can take back to the tap to refill

works a charm for me and is totally legal in QLD with restriction level 3

as you are using buckets filled from the tap
poured into another bucket that supplys the karcher

gerni brand is not compatible with this setup according to the meguiars site

Careful with filling the bucket from the tap then using the high pressure cleaner to wash the car.

If you fill your water tank with town supply it is treated as town supply - the question then is - is a bucket just a small tank?

well you are filling bucket from tap..
the pressure washer is just like using a watering can.. just it has a motor and helps spray for you!!

ive used it a few times now and never had a blink from the water patrol..(i live on a fairly busy road and have never actually SEEN a water patrol car... so *shrugs*)

Buckets are too cumbersome to use. I was told to use a watering can, with the shower head on it. Not as good as a hose, but good enough caus you get a good wide spread of water. It helps that I wash my car on a hill :sm_headba

seeing it's Meguiars DOC might be able to supply them, otherwise they're easy to make yourself just buy a big bucket & tap fitting from a hardware store

yeah laminge
just head down to hardware store ( i went to bunnings)
and got a tap (mine is the 90 degree on off type where its more a valve with a lever)from the plumbing section with a big nut to go on the inside of the bucket (on other end of threaded tap section that usually screws into a pipe)
then get the appropriate hose fitting for the end your hose goes on then use a length of garden hose (about 1 to 1.5 metres i find is enough)

then get a handy pail type bucket (15-20 litre kind mostly found on side of road from plasterers and painters etc the big white kind) also can be purchased from bunnings for $9.90 or there abouts

make hole with a spade bit or regular drill bit.
add some silicon if it does not seal well enough

total cost if you purchase a bucket is $20 or so or 11 if you already have said buckets handy

then just stand the new bucket ontop of a stand or upturned bucket to give it some gravity feed

fit karcher/superworks/repco pressure washer to other end of hose and voila!

enjoy your new toy!

No. Everything will be fine without the sign.

What will happen is this.

The person will phone the water police and say, "At such and such address this person is using a hand held hose". And as everyone lodges rebate through the water board, they have register.
They will kindly be informed that they have a storm water tank installed.
